    • An apparatus for mounting a system component in a chassis includes an electrically conductive chassis having a grounding frame mounted therein and electrically connected thereto. An access opening extends through the grounding frame. The access opening is defined by opposed longitudinal edges. An elongated contact member is attached to the grounding frame adjacent to each longitudinal edge of the access opening. Each one of the contact members is resiliently deflectable about a pivot axis adjacent the corresponding longitudinal edge. Discontinuities and obstructions along the edge portions of the expansion device do not engage and damage the contact members. Furthermore, a substantially continuous EMI gasket is provided along substantially the entire edge of the expansion card, improving the reliability of the ground between the chassis and the expansion device and reducing electromagnetic emissions.

    • An apparatus includes a chassis having an access panel mounted on the chassis for being moved between an open position and a closed position. A plurality of mounting flanges extend from an interior surface of the access panel. An elongated latch has a first end and a second end. The first end and the second end of the latch are slidably mounted between the interior surface of the access panel and a corresponding one of the mounting flanges. The latch is movable between a latched position and an unlatched position with respect to a flange portion of the chassis in a direction generally parallel to a longitudinal axis of the latch. A plurality of contoured resilient members are mounted between the latch and the access panel for biasing the latch to the latched position. A contoured portion of one of the resilient members is inverted from a contoured portion an adjacent one of the resilient members. The apparatus has a low profile with respect to system components mounted in the chassis and with respect to a rack that the chassis is mounted in. The configuration of the resilient members provides a center-balanced force with respect to a longitudinal axis of the latch, contributing to a smooth latch operation. Furthermore, the resilient members are capable of developing a relatively high force while occupying only a relatively small space.

    • A cooling subsystem and method for a chassis of a computer system. The cooling subsystem comprises: (1) first and second cooling fans having first and second motors associated therewith for driving the first and second cooling fans, respectively and (2) a common plenum substantially shrouding and providing a pathway for air communication between the first and second cooling fans, the first and second fans cooperating to provide an optimum rate of air flow from without the chassis to within the chassis to provide air exchange within the chassis, the air flow within the chassis being in a predetermined direction to provide directed cooling of a specified device within the chassis, the common plenum allowing the first and second fans to continue to cooperate to provide a minimum air flow to provide a minimum air exchange within the chassis, the air flow remaining in the predetermined direction to continue the directed cooling of the specified device when a selected one of the first and second motors fails.
