    • A method and equipment for accelerating throughput of communication segments from a sender (30) to a receiver (40) each of which include a protocol layer (30a 40a) for providing such segments, the method in case of TCP including a first step (20a) in which the sender protocol layer (30a) initializes a congestion window (cwnd) to some initial size (iwnd) and increases the congestion window by one segment each time it receives an ACK, but upon receiving an indication of low congestion, performs a step (20c) of accelerated start in which it sets a slow start threshold (SSTHRES) to a standard initial value (typically 65535) and re-initializes cwnd to a new value, and the sender protocol layer (30a) then increments cwnd at one or another predetermined rate—depending on whether the start immediately follows a new connection or instead follows a transfer of an existing connection to a new path—in respect to received ACKs.

    • A station of a wireless local area network, the station includes a joining unit configured to join one of a plurality of cliques or to create a new clique, wherein each of the plurality of cliques includes at least one station and wherein each station in a clique can hear all other stations within the clique. The station also includes a communication unit configured to communicate with a server that assigns a unique value to each station in the clique when the station joins the network, wherein the value is used to determine a rank associated with each station within the clique. The server is configured to maintain a system map that defines information associated with each of the plurality of cliques and all of the stations in the network. The station also includes a listening unit configured to listen for a predefined signal such that upon receipt of the predefined signal each station in the clique is configured to begin transmission based on an order determined by a ranking of the stations in the clique.

    • A method includes connecting a mobile router (MR), also referred to herein as a gateway mobile terminal, of a mobile network (MONET) to an access point (AP) of an access network (AN) that includes an Access Router (AR); making a request to obtain a plurality of link addresses from a link address manager of the AN; allocating individual ones of the plurality of link addresses to individual ones of network nodes of the MONET; and performing a neighbor discovery procedure with the AR to send at least one neighbor advertisement to declare the allocated individual ones of the assigned plurality of link addresses. In one embodiment the request is made to obtain a set of link layer addresses (LLAs) that are allocated to individual ones of the network nodes, while in another embodiment the request is made to obtain a group identification (Group_ID) that is used to formulate a set of LLAs that are allocated to individual ones of the network nodes. The LLAs can be passed through the gateway mobile terminal to the individual network nodes, if the MONET signaling allows, or the gateway mobile terminal can map the LLAs to hardwired addresses of individual ones of the network nodes.

    • A “loose ACK” method by which a radio access network of a cellular network monitors wireless transmission of packets according to a layered protocol including a radio layer (near the physical layer) and an upper layer, the method including: a step (23) of slow release—in what is called normal buffer management—in which the upper layer removes from a buffer maintained by the upper layer the oldest packet in the buffer when the buffer is full and a new packet arrives, and does so independently of whether the packet being removed has been acknowledged by the radio layer of the terminal; and a step (24) of local acknowledgement in which the radio layer sends an acknowledgement to the upper layer on the occurrence of a predetermined event. The local acknowledgement can trigger either special mode buffer management or release of the buffer to a target (entity or layer).
