    • In a radio paging receiver comprising a receiving section (11), a decoder section (12), and a CPU (13) for distinguishing a specific one of a plurality of call signals and processing a specific message signal succeeding the specific call signal into a processed message signal, the receiving section is intermittently put into operation. The decoder section is put into operation in accordance with a first clock signal which is supplied from a first clock generator (16). A switching circuit (20) selectively connects the CPU with the first clock generator and a second clock generator (17). More particularly, the CPU is put into operation in accordance with a second clock signal which is supplied from the second generator when the receiving section does not operate. The frequency of the second clock signal is much higher than that of the first clock signal. Therefore, the CPU processes the specific message signal into the processed message signal at a rapid processing speed in accordance with the second clock signal when the receiving section is not put into operation.

    • In a paging receiver having a processing unit (15) which produces an incoming message in response to reception of a radio signal specifically directed to the receiver, the processing unit compares the incoming message with each of selected messages selected from particular messages which are memorized in a message memory (18). Only when the incoming message is not coincident with at least one of the selected messages, the processing unit produces an activating signal. In accordance with the activating signal, the processing unit stores the incoming messages as one of the particular messages in the message memory. When the incoming message is coincident with at least one of the selected messages, the incoming message is not stored in the message memory. Preferably, when one of the selected messages is memorized in the message memory continuously in excess of a predetermined time period while the incoming message is coincident with the one of the selected messages, the processing unit renews the one of the selected messages.

    • A selective calling display radio pager has a memory which is configured to store a plurality of received messages for later retrieval so that the amount of messages which can be stored is limited by one of first and second memory availability factors depending on the length of each of the received messages. A controller determines one of the first and second memory availability factors which is more accurate early warning against possible depletion of the memory than the other and displays it on a graphic alarm indicator along with a display of a message retrieved from the memory. Specifically, the controller determines the ratio of a sum of messages which can be received at a given time to the maximum number of messages which can be stored and the ratio of a sum of message segments which can be received at said given time to the maximum number of such message segments which can be stored, and provides a display of the smaller ratio on the graphic alarm indicator.

    • A pager receiver is assigned to a particular call number and is for receiving pager signals of a predetermined baud rate by use of the battery saving technique. Each of the pager signal comprises a synchronization code signal and a plurality of address signals, each of the address signals comprising a call number and a message, a particular one of the address signals being assigned to the pager receiver. The pager receiver is driven by a power-on signal at a timing for receiving the particular address signal. The pager receiver has a baud rate monitoring circuit for detecting the predetermined baud rate of a signal received to produce a monitoring signal, and a comparing circuit for comparing the call number in the particular address signal with the particular call number to produce a coincident signal. When both of the monitoring signal and the coincident signal are present at a time, the pager receiver drives an indicator.

    • A selective calling receiver includes a decoder having a reference clock oscillator and a CPU having a CPU operating clock oscillator. The decoder includes a timing control circuit for generating a timing signal in synchronism with a synchronizing signal contained in a POCSAG signal and a BCH error correcting circuit for extracting a message code from the POCSAG signal. If the CPU is supplied with a message code from the decoder when no timing signal is inputted from the decoder, the CPU stores the message code in RAM in the CPU or a buffer memory area of external RAM connected to the CPU. In this case, the CPU operates with a first clock signal generated by the reference clock oscillator. When the CPU is supplied with the timing signal from the decoder, the CPU reads the message code from the RAM or the buffer memory area and processes the message code with a second clock signal generated by the CPU operating clock oscillator and the second clock signal has a frequency higher than the frequency of the first clock signal.

    • In a radio page receiver comprising a memory (14) which is activated by main electric power and backed up by backup electric power, and which has a message area and an additional area for memorizing messages and administration data for administration of the messages, respectively, a message processor (20) is included in the receiver to judge whether or not the administration data are correctly kept in the additional area when the memory and the message processor are activated after the message processor is once deactivated. The message processor thereby produces a result signal representative of judgement. The message processor may process the message signals to have the administration data related to one another in accordance with a logical relationship. In this event, the message processor judges whether or not the logical relationship is correctly kept in the additional area. The logical relationship is checked by message linkage information indicative of a message order on processing the message signals. The logical relationship may also be checked by another linkage information related to a length of each message. The message processor may erase the messages and the administration data from the message area and the additional area when the result of judgement indicates that the administration data are not correctly kept in the additional area.
