    • A resistance training apparatus and method for providing a plurality of training vectors having points of origin variable by direction and elevation to a trainee. The apparatus may accommodate a plurality of trainees and provide multiple training vectors to each trainee. The apparatus provides the training vectors by attaching tethers such as elastic cords to harnesses worn around body portions of an athlete in a configuration that allows the athlete to perform a sports-specific or therapeutic movement at an optimum speed. In one embodiment the apparatus includes a base forming the training area and a pair of tower assemblies, each providing elastic cords for attachment to the harnesses worn by the athlete. In another embodiment the apparatus provides at least sixteen training vectors to a trainee. In yet another embodiment the apparatus provides training vectors to patients or trainees who cannot fully support their own body weight. Each of the elastic cords providing the training vectors are independently adjustable such that balanced or unbalanced loading may be applied simultaneously to a trainee from multiple directions and multiple planes.

    • An exercise apparatus and method for applying one or more lateral resistive loads to participants performing complex motions at low or high speeds to condition one's body to better and more quickly perform physical movements at high speeds. Elastic members may be used to generate resistance emanating from a ground-based or vertically-positioned apparatus. The elastic members may connect to one or more of the following body parts simultaneously: feet, thighs, waist, hands, elbows or shoulders. The apparatus may be mechanically designed to fully retract the elastic members into the apparatus to maintain resistance while participants are in close proximity to the apparatus. The apparatus may provide a plurality of self-contained elastic members and provides participants with the ability to alter the vertical and horizontal positions of each elastic member's emanation point from the apparatus. This provides the ability to control applied resistance vectors between the attachment point on the participant and the apparatus.

    • An athletic exercise device and method for improving an athlete's reflexes may include cushioned arms that are moved laterally toward the athlete so that the athlete must move to avoid the arms. In certain body contact sports, such as boxing and karate, athletes with improved reflexes to avoid blows have an advantage. By selectively moving the arms of the present invention toward the athlete and thereby training the athlete to avoid being struck by the arms, the reflexes for such sports may be improved. The arms may extend through slots in a vertical backboard and be moved by a trainer positioned behind the backboard. Elastic cord may be provided to retract the arms away from the athlete and the backboard may be mobile to enhance training effectiveness.

    • An exercise system and method may be used by a variety of animals, including horses, dogs and humans, for conditioning an animal to run faster. An exercise track is defined by two spaced-apart railings. Each railing slidably carries a restraining device for providing a net force restraining an animal running on the exercise track. A harness conveys the net force from the restraining devices to the animal. An animal using the present invention may be conditioned to run at its full speed while being held back by the net restraining force, and is thereby conditioned to run faster when not so restrained. The restraining force may be generally parallel to the center line of the track on which the animal is running, and may be constant or varied. The restraining force may be created by suitable braking devices using aerodynamic drag, friction, magnetic resistance and the like.
