    • The invention is a method and apparatus for storing and communicating information between a customer and proprietor, enabling the proprietor to build a database of customer information and enabling the customer to build a database of information from businesses participating in the system of the invention. Customers provide information only to those proprietors they choose and automatically receive business contact information and other important information (including but not limited to store hours, special deals). Examples of the customer information to be stored by the business are contact information such as address and telephone information, shopping habits, amounts purchased, photographs, demographic data, date of initiation into the customer loyalty program, and the like. The invention enables the proprietor to analyze customer habits and communicate special offers or customer rewards to specific classes of customers. The customer utilizes a handheld personal information device to store personal information such as name, address, telephone number, email address, and other customer information. The personal information unit transmits said personal information to, and may receives information from, an information exchange unit upon entry of the customer onto the proprietor's business premises. Customer personal information and shopping metrics are recorded in a relational database. The business proprietor establishes reward criteria specific to his business and utilizes the system of the invention to analyze customer shopping habits, demographic information, and geographic information; and the system of the invention is furthermore used to reward customer loyalty.

    • The operating rod of an automotive door lock is provided with a connector member which, in turn, is engaged by a knob having a cavity to receive the connector member. The outside dimensions of the knob are larger than the aperture in the casing, thus preventing the knob from being depressed. The cavity in the knob is sufficiently large to permit the connector member and thus, the rod, to be in its advanced, or unlocked position, while remaining entirely within the knob. This arrangement permits one to pull upwardly on the knob thereby unlocking the door, but prevents one from manually depressing the knob or the connector member and thus, the rod, to thereby lock the door. A car key, however, can be inserted through the top of the cavity to urge the connector member and the rod to the retracted, locked position.

    • A method and system for collecting information on advertisers, products, and/or services of interest to a consumer. The present invention provides a bridge between the physical world and the virtual world that is beneficial to both consumers and advertisers. When a consumer participating in a consumer loyalty system is exposed to an advertisement of interest containing an alphanumeric identifier of the present invention, the consumer may send an initiation message to the alphanumeric identifier and thereafter the consumer's profile within the consumer loyalty system is mapped or linked to the profile of the participating advertiser. Such alphanumeric identifiers may be incorporated into all forms of known advertising media. The present invention provides a method and system for a consumer to easily bookmark a specific advertiser, product, and/or service for later review without having to write down or memorize a URL address or any other contact information.

A point of sale specific interface (POSSI), which functions to bidirectionally translate POS system specific data that is communicated from the existing POS system database into generic transaction/update upload bundles that are communicated to the business server software (BSS). Having bidirectional translating capability, the POSSI may provide communications between a central subsystem database of a consumer loyalty system, accessible via the BSS and an internet connection, and disparate pre-existing POS systems at various places of business. Acting as a go-between, the POSSI communicates with the BSS by means of a generic interface, while the POSSI communicates with disparate POS systems by means of a system specific interface.

    • A squirrel-resistant bird feeder includes an inner seed-containing cylinder having a central upwardly-extending rod for mounting on a support and side openings for providing bird access to the seed. A hollow cylinder having a top surface with a central opening from about which a central hollow baffle depends controls seed levels while passing seed to lower dispensers. A relatively-movable outer cylinder guards the inner seed-containing cylinder and has side openings which align with the inner cylinder side openings when in its normal or home position to which it is urged by a tension spring. A squirrel alighting on the bird feeder moves the outer cylinder relative to the inner one against the tension of a spring to where their side openings are nonaligned to preclude squirrel access to the inner cylinder seed. A pin and slot arrangement insures opening aligment in the home position. The outer cylinder is formed of gnaw resistant materials. A small hole in an outer cylinder end cap passes the rod to limit swinging action of the bird feeder and help guide relative movement between the cylinders. Aligned magnets on the inner and outer cylinders help hold the outer cylinder in the normal or home position.
