    • The storage system of the present invention is able to update a secret while maintaining a session between a host and storage. The administrator configures a new secret for the host and the storage. The session manager issues a request to the storage to open a session that uses the new secret. The session manager opens a session that uses the new secret following authentication. A response to an old command issued prior to the secret update is transmitted from the storage to the host via a session that uses an old secret. A new command following the secret update is transmitted from the host to the storage via the session that uses the new secret. When all the old command processing is complete, the old secret using session is closed.

    • A port assignment device capable of properly distributing loads on each of a plurality of ports is provided. The device assigning a plurality of ports, storing data from external devices via a network in a plurality of storage modules and managing the data in the storage modules by a plurality of targets processing initiator commands from the external devices, to the targets includes a load information storage module which stores load information indicating a load on each port assigned to each of the targets and a processing module which alters the port assignment to each target so as to disperse the load on each port based on the load information stored in the load information storage module. It then becomes possible to control amounts of data to be transmitted or received, that is, to properly distribute such amounts of data.

    • Provided is an information processing system and a login method capable of simplifying login processing and also simplifying the entire configuration of the system.Targets are classified into groups, and an address is assigned to each group. An initiator stores the address of each group, and each target stores at least the address assigned to the group the relevant target itself belongs to and information for identifying the initiator that is permitted to connect to itself. When the initiator logs in to a target belonging to a desired group, the initiator issues a login request whose destination is the address assigned to the desired group. When the target receives the login request whose destination is the address assigned to the group to which the relevant target itself belongs to and only when the initiator is permitted to connect to itself, the target transmits a login response to the initiator.
