    • The disk drive memory of the present invention uses a large plurality of small form factor disk drives to implement an inexpensive, high performance, high reliability disk drive memory that emulates the format and capability of large form factor disk drives. The plurality of disk drives are switchably interconnectable to form redundancy groups of N+M parallel connnected disk drives to store data thereon. The N+M disk drives are used to store the N segments of each data word plus M redundancy segments. In addition, a pool of R backup disk drives is maintained to automatically substitute a replacement disk drive for a disk drive in a redundancy group that fails during operation. The number N of data segments in each data redundancy group can be varied throughout the disk drive memory to thereby match the characteristics of the input data or operational parameters within the disk drive memory. Furthermore, a group of U unassigned disk drives can be maintained as a stock of disk drives that can be powered up as needed and assigned to either a redundancy group or to the pool of backup disk drives.

As users perform operations affecting system components, the repository manager keeps track of the performed operations. Responsive to a user committing a set of changes, the repository manager updates the master repository according to the performed operations, associates a new version number with the resulting state of the repository and synchronizes the user's working area with the updated repository.

    • A footstand for stabilizing a body of a medical device against being overturned. The body may especially be a chest drainage unit (CDU) designed and configured to receive and collect fluids from a medical patient. The invention comprises at least one stand coupled to the body and adapted for deployment to a position for stabilizing the body against upset. The CDU body is a generally upstanding rectangular box having a pair of depending feet, one foot on each side of the body. The stand, is rotatably connected to the bottom of the CDU body and is provided with a height adjustment feature which allows the stand to be rotated between a first undeployed position wherein the stand covers or encloses the depending fee of the CDU body while providing a relatively smooth and continuous bottom stand surface to a second deployed position wherein the bottom stand surface is at the same height or in the same horizontal plane as the bottom of the depending feet of the CDU body to provide a solid and secure footstand for the CDU body. It is desirable to provide a footstand for a CDU which provides a smooth contoured surface for the CDU bottom when the footstand is in its first undeployed position so that the CDU bottom will not puncture the sterile package during transportation of the CDU to an end user or during storage of the CDU prior to use or during disposal of the CDU after use in a hazardous disposal bag.

    • Disclosed is an optical inspection system for inspecting the surface of a substrate. The optical inspection system includes a light source for emitting an incident light beam along an optical axis and a first set of optical elements arranged for separating the incident light beam into a plurality of light beams, directing the plurality of light beams to intersect with the surface of the substrate, and focusing the plurality of light beams to a plurality of scanning spots on the surface of the substrate. The inspection system further includes a light detector arrangement including individual light detectors that correspond to individual ones of a plurality of reflected or transmitted light beams caused by the intersection of the plurality of light beams with the surface of the substrate. The light detectors are arranged for sensing the light intensity of either the reflected or transmitted light.
