    • In an ink tank, a main ink chamber is contiguous to a sub ink chamber containing an absorption member, and an air communication hole is formed on the top of the sub ink chamber. The absorption member holds ink pressure constant by capillary attraction of the absorption member. First, ink in the sub ink chamber is consumed with consumption of ink. When ink is consumed in a predetermined amount, air passes through the absorption member and a meniscus forming portion to form bubbles, which then move to the main ink chamber. Ink pressure is held constant by surface tension of the meniscus forming portion. Even if ink remains in a small amount, the ink leading portion makes the meniscus forming portion wet for holding ink pressure.

    • An ink supply device for use in an ink jet printer comprising a main ink chamber in communication through a communication hole with a sub-ink chamber containing an ink absorbing member therein. A meniscus film forming member covering the communication hole and communicating the main ink chamber with the sub-ink chamber; the member having a first surface facing the interior of the main ink chamber and an opposite second surface. An ink guide member extending into a lower portion of the main chamber and also being in contact with the first surface of the film forming member, wherein as ink in the main ink chamber is consumed a differential pressure between the first and second surfaces of the film forming member causes a gradual expansion of a liquid meniscus film into an air bubble on the film forming member to maintain a constant negative pressure in the main ink chamber.

    • The method according to the present invention comprises: a first curving step of curving a plate-like metallic blank (1) such that the blank (1) is convexed; a bending step of bending, with the outer peripheral edge portion (1e) of the blank (1) restrained from radially outwardly extending, the resulting arcuate portion (1b) of the curved blank (1) in the direction opposite to the convex direction thereof, so that a boss (6) is formed; and a second curving step of pushing the inner peripheral portion of a flat portion (5) of the blank (1) in the direction opposite to the boss projecting direction. Through the steps above-mentioned, the blank (1) is provided at the center thereof with the case-like boss (6) projecting in one direction from one lateral side of the blank (1) and at the outer periphery thereof with a peripheral wall (7) projecting in the same direction in which the boss (6) projects. Thus, with a small press machine, there can be securely formed, with high precision, a boss having a desired diameter and a desired projecting height, without the original thickness of the blank (1) decreased so much in the course of production steps.

    • An ink jet printer is disclosed which, only when ink is to be supplied, supplies ink from a main tank disposed outside a carriage and which can effect the supply of ink stably without the leakage of ink. When it is detected by an ink level sensor that the ink level in a second ink chamber of an ink tank has become lower than a predetermined position, pipes in ports are inserted respectively into slit valves provided in the second ink chamber. Then, by operating a pump, the air present in the second ink chamber is discharged by suction to increase a negative pressure in the second ink chamber, allowing ink to be supplied from a main tank into the second ink chamber. Thus, since the supply of ink is performed by a negative pressure, it is possible to prevent the leakage of ink from the portion where the pipe is inserted into the slit valve.

    • The present invention relates to a method of producing a sheet metal gear in which a metal sheet (2) is used as a starting material and a gear is formed in the outer peripheral edge of the metal sheet. The object of the production method is to finish easily and accurately pitches of valleys and peaks of the gear which is formed in a simple production facility. The time period required for completing the formation of the gear in the outer peripheral edge of the metal sheet is shortened, thereby enhancing productivity. According to the production method, in the initial preparation step, a number of places of the outer peripheral edge of the circular metal sheet (2) which are arranged with a regular pitch are punched out in the axial direction, thereby forming preliminary valleys and preliminary peaks. Then, the method transfers to a gear forming step. In the gear forming step, a shaping roller which is rotated and follows the metal sheet increases the depth of the preliminary valleys to shape the valleys of the gear, and the height of the preliminary peaks to shape the peaks of the gear. The outer peripheral edge of the metal sheet is thickened as required before starting the preparation step.
