    • An extraction unit extracts a centerline of a tubular structure from a volume data set. A generation unit generates a plurality of image data sets concerning a plurality of curved planes based on the volume data set. Each of the curved planes contains the centerline. The plurality of image data sets have a plurality of image lengths respectively and contain a plurality of centerlines respectively. A first specification unit specifies a first image data set or a second image data set from the plurality of image data sets. The first image data set is specified based on the plurality of image lengths of the plurality of image data sets. The second image data set is specified based on gradients of the plurality of centerlines of the plurality of image data sets. A display unit displays the first image or the second image.

    • An image processing apparatus includes a storage unit which stores the data of a plurality of images including an examination target organ of an object, a reference point determining unit which determines, from each of the images, a reference point which is located in or near a region of the examination target organ and undergoes a relatively small displacement accompanying respiratory motion or, heartbeat, and a moving amount calculation unit which determines the position of each of a plurality of points of interest included in the region of the examination target organ relative to the reference point for each of the images, and calculates, based on the determined positions, moving amounts that corresponding points of interest between the images move accompanying the respiratory motion or the heartbeat.

    • An image display system according to an embodiment includes a controlling apparatus and a display apparatus. The controlling apparatus includes a judging unit and a switching control unit, whereas the display apparatus includes a switching unit. Based on information related to viewing of an image, the judging unit judges whether the image to be displayed by the display apparatus is an image for a stereoscopic view or an image for a planar view. The switching control unit exercises control so as to switch the display apparatus into a stereoscopic view mode or a planar view mode, according to a judgment result of the judging unit. The switching unit switches the display apparatus into the stereoscopic view mode or the planar view mode, according to the control of the switching control unit.
