The optical fiber includes a core comprising a maximum refractive index difference Δn1 in the optical fiber, an inner layer comprising a refractive index difference Δn2 that is smaller than the maximum refractive index of the core and decreases in a direction away from the core, the inner layer being positioned outside the core, and a trench layer comprising an inner-circumference refractive index difference Δn3 that is smaller than the refractive index difference of the inner layer and an outer-circumference refractive index difference Δn4 that is a minimum refractive index difference in the optical fiber.

摘要： A method for dehydrating and consolidating a porous optical fiber preform in a heating apparatus is provided. The apparatus includes a muffle in which the porous optical fiber preform is placed and a plurality of multi-stage heaters attached to an outer circumference of the muffle in a longitudinal direction of the preform. The preform is placed in the muffle such that the multi-stage heaters surround a total length of the preform. The preform is heated and dehydrated in a state in which a temperature of the multi-stage heaters reaches a dehydrating temperature of the preform. A temperature of one heater selected from the heaters is raised to a consolidating temperature of the preform. The dehydrated preform is moved and is passed through a high temperature zone formed by the selected heater in the muffle. The dehydrated preform is consolidated.

摘要： An apparatus for fabricating an optical fiber coated with metal, constructed with a crucible for melting the optical fiber preform to draw an uncoated optical fiber, a diameter measuring device for measuring the diameter of the uncoated optical fiber to regulate it, a metal coater for coating the uncoated optical fiber with metal to prevent penetration of moisture, a temperature controller for controlling the inside temperature of the metal coater, a post-cooler for cooling the metaled optical fiber from a high temperature, a capstan for drawing the optical fiber from the optical fiber preform by applying a rotational force against a portion of the metaled optical fiber, and a spool for winding the metaled optical fiber. The metaled optical fiber includes a core for transmitting light, a cladding on the core having lower refractive index than the core, and a metal coating formed on the cladding for preventing penetration of moisture.

摘要： Disclosed is a vapor axial deposition apparatus. The vapor axial deposition apparatus includes a first torch, a second torch, a temperature measuring unit and a controller unit. The first torch deposits soot on a distal end of a soot preform aligned with a vertical axis to thereby grow a core. The second torch deposits soot on an outer circumferential surface of the core to thereby grow a clad. The temperature measuring unit detects the temperature distribution of an end portion of the soot preform along the vertical axis. The controller unit determines first and second relative maximum temperatures T1 and T3, and relative minimum temperature T2 between T1 and T3 in the detected temperature distribution, and controls T1 to be within a predetermined range and the greater one of the difference (T1−T2) and (T3−T2) to not exceed a predetermined temperature.

An embodiment of the method of manufacturing a large size preform for a dispersion control fiber by an MCVD process comprises depositing SiO2, GeO2, P2O5, and Freon in an inner periphery of a deposition tube to form a cladding layer, and depositing SiO2, GeO2, P2O5 and Freon on an inner periphery of the cladding layer to form a core layer.

摘要： There is provided a dispersion-managed fiber preform and a fabricating method thereof preform by modified chemical vapor deposition (MCVD). A core and a clad having the refractive index distribution of an optical fiber with a positive dispersion value are uniformly deposited in a glass tube. The preform with the positive dispersion value is heated at every predetermined period with a torch and the heated preform portions are etched to have a negative dispersion value. Then, the preform alternately having positions with the positive dispersion value and positions with the negative dispersion value along the length direction is collapsed.
