    • A system for wireless asset tracking is disclosed. The system includes a plurality of mobile devices. Each mobile device performs two spreading operations with two distinct PN codes, a first PN code and a second PN code. Data is transmitted by each mobile device using a burst direct sequence spread spectrum radio signal. The system also includes at least three base stations. Each base station is configured to receive the burst direct sequence spread spectrum radio signals from the mobile devices which includes decoding the signals by first de-spreading with the second PN code and second de-spreading with the first PN code. Each base station is further configured to add a timestamp to each data packet received. A system for calculating the location of the mobile devices creates location information for each mobile device by calculating the time difference of arrival of received bursts for each base station.

    • A method and apparatus for minimizing the power consumed by a low-noise amplifier in a receiver portion of a full duplex transceiver when the transmit signal power of the transceiver as presented to the low-noise amplifier exceeds the receive signal power and would further cause the low-noise amplifier to enter into a compression state thereby introducing distortion onto the receive signal. A transmit power control indicator designates a modified transmit power level for use by the transceiver. The transmit portion of the transceiver alters the transmit power level accordingly while the receiver portion of the transceiver monitors the change in the transmit portion and generates a bias control signal altering the bias level of the low noise amplifier to a level compatible with the modified transmit power level. Such a tracking of the bias current of the low noise amplifier both facilitates the use of lower-isolation duplexers and also reduces power consumption for portable transceivers.

    • An apparatus and method of mounting an antenna in a portable information device (PID) are provided. The PID includes a housing having an elongated slot formed therein. A circuit board is disposed with the housing. An elongated antenna housing including a first end and a second end is received in the elongated slot. A conductive contact member is positioned within the elongated antenna housing, and an antenna member is positioned within the elongated antenna housing. The antenna member is electrically connected with the conductive contact member. A conductive connection clip is attached to the housing for providing an electrical connection between the conductive contact member and the circuit board. The conductive connection clip includes a first end portion and a second end portion. The second end portion of the conductive connection clip is operatively connected to the circuit board and the first end portion of the conductive connection clip contacts the conductive contact member positioned within the elongated antenna housing to allow signals to be transmitted from the antenna member to the circuit board and vice versa.

    • The present invention discloses antenna structures for portable digital devices that continuously receive radio signals in both the extended and the retracted antenna positions. In addition, the disclosed antenna structures tune the antenna based on the position of the antenna to achieve good impedance matching, which is particularly useful in reducing the noise and interference, while maximizing the available power for radiation from the portable digital devices. More specifically, a multiple position stylus antenna is disclosed that incorporates an antenna into a stylus for use with a Personal Digital Assistant (PDA). The stylus antenna uses one radiating element tuned for optimal performance in the extended position and synthesizes a compensation impedance to match the impedance of the feeding transmission line in the retracted position.
