The first connection provides for an exchange of data with the mobile endpoint via a first point of connection. The mobile endpoint is coupled to the first point of connection via a second connection. The method also includes characterizing the data exchanged with the mobile endpoint, and determining whether to buffer the data based on the characterization of the data. The method further includes receiving a request to transfer the mobile endpoint from the first point of connection to a second point of connection. The method also includes determining whether to forward the buffered data to the second point of connection based on the characterization of the data.

摘要： A method is provided in one example embodiment and includes communicating an in-band message packet from a first network element; receiving a response to the in-band message from a second network element, the response contains tunnel identification binding data that identifies a tunnel on a backhaul link on which traffic from a user equipment can flow; and receiving instructions from the second network element to offload a received data packet from the backhaul link. In particular instances, the in-band message is set to loopback when the in-band message is sent from the first network element. In other embodiments, the tunnel identification binding data is provided in the payload of the in-band message when the in-band message is sent from the first network element. In other examples, the method can include receiving an assigned Internet protocol (IP) address of the user equipment in the response to the in-band message.

The mobile devices and gateways providing access to the networks support the use of virtual access point names within network access requests. The packet data service request is associated with a mobile subscriber and a service identifier that can bypass validation for accessing a traffic destination. Access is requested from an access node in response to the packet data service request. An access acceptance message is received from the access node, where the access acceptance message identifies the target access point. A packet data context is created by associating the target access point with the mobile subscriber to allow the mobile subscriber to access the traffic destination.

摘要： An apparatus for charging in a network environment is provided that includes an access gateway encapsulation/decapsulation element operable to establish one or more packet data protocol (PDP) links on behalf of an end user and to perform encapsulation and decapsulation operations for one or more of the links associated with the end user. The access gateway encapsulation/decapsulation element is further operable to interface with a client services packet gateway (CSPG) that is operable to provide enhanced packet processing for the end user for requested information. The apparatus also includes an access gateway policy element operable to interface with the CSPG. The access gateway encapsulation/decapsulation element and the access gateway policy element cooperate to use one or more inter-module headers in order to coordinate the enhanced packet processing for one or more communication flows associated with the end user.
