    • A cross-country ski binding for mounting on a ski to hold a ski boot includes a base plate for mounting on the upper surface of the ski. The base plate has a front section on which a resilient compression element, such as a spring, is mounted. The compression element is coupled to a forward end of a cable so that when rearward force is applied to the cable, the compression element provides resistance to the rearward movement of the cable, and then expands to pull the cable forward when the rearward force is removed. A toe plate is mounted on the base plate for receiving and holding a ski boot toe. The toe plate has a channel formed below the upper surface thereof, which extends from the front section rearwardly for receiving the cable. The cable is coupled at the forward end to the compression element and extends rearwardly through the channel. A heel holding element is coupled to the rearward end of the cable for attaching to the heel of the ski boot so that the cable and heel holding element "block" the ski boot from exiting the toe plate.

The second portion of the input data is removed so that the input data is compressed, and intermediate data corresponding to the compressed input data is sent to the output device. The output device expands the intermediate data at the output device based on at least one of the first and second patterns.

    • A carriage drive system includes a timing belt pivotally anchored to a carriage. A drive motor rotates the timing belt, moving the carriage along a carriage path. The drive belt moves along a pair of pulleys. A first pulley is coupled to the motor's drive shaft. A second pulley is coupled to an idler spring. The idler spring determines the belt tension when the belt is stationary. Acceleration of the carriage alters the belt tension. A pivot connection occurs between the drive belt and the carriage. During acceleration, the pivotal connection rotates shortening the effective length of the belt, which in turn stretches the idler spring, and increases belt tension. While the carriage is at rest or moving at constant velocity, the pivot connection serves to reduce side load impact on the drive motor's shaft and windings. The pivot connection also isolates the carriage from high frequency vibrations.

    • A universal capping system seals the printhead of either a single-chamber or a multi-chamber style inkjet cartridge, such as a black ink cartridge or a multi-color ink cartridge installed in an inkjet printing mechanism. In an imaging inkjet cartridge system, the normal single-chamber black cartridge for printing text is replaced with a multi-chamber imaging cartridge. Some imaging cartridges carry ink formulations having reduced colorant concentrations, which, when used in conjunction with a full color cartridge carrying full colorant concentrations of color inks, provides near photographic image quality, as well as crisp black text and line art. The printing mechanism is provided with a universal capping system, including several banks of flexible sealing sublips, capable of sealing either style cartridge when installed. One sublip has an asymmetrical cross section selected to control the direction of bending. The cap is spring-biased to push the sealing lips into engagement with the installed printhead.

    • An adjustable length ski pole includes two telescopically fitted together ski pole halves, and a clamp disposed about the joint between the two pole halves. The clamp includes a resilient tubular member having an annular sidewall which defines a cylindrical bore, where the sidewall is formed with a longitudinally extending gap to allow the tubular member to be selectively biased to reduce the gap width and thus the diameter of the bore, or to enlarge the gap width and thus the diameter of the bore. The gap defines first and second opposing sidewall edges having coaxial first and second openings respectively. The clamp also includes a pin anchored at one end in the first opening to extend with the other end through the second opening, and a lever arm pivotally attached at one end to the other end of the pin, to move between a clamped position, in which the lever arm lies in contact with the ski pole to bias the first and second sidewall edges towards one another, and an unclamped position, in which the lever arm is pivoted away from the ski pole to allow the gap to widen. The sidewall edge includes a camming surface and the lever arm includes a camming knuckle formed at said one end to contact the camming surface and force the second sidewall edge toward the first sidewall edge when the lever arm is pivoted to the clamped position, to thereby secure the two pole halves in a fixed position relative to one another.

    • A method of producing and using photo media to print a glossy, photo-quality image. The image is printed onto the back of a coated transparent base. Thereafter, an opaque backing is applied to cover the printed image. The resulting print is viewed from the front, which provides the photo-quality, attractive appearance primarily because of the substantial gloss depth and uniformity attributable to the transparent base. The transparent base and backing protect the ink-receiving coating and make the resulting print very durable. The image is light fast because the ink is sandwiched between the transparent base and the backing, thereby sealing the ink from oxygen. In a preferred embodiment of the present invention, the backing is applied as a liquid using substantially the same mechanism as used for printing the image.
