    • A level shift circuit for sustaining the activation and inactivation response of a transistor with respect to an input signal in a preferable manner. The level shift circuit includes a shift circuit for converting an input signal having a first voltage to an output signal having a second voltage that is higher than the first voltage. The voltage generation circuit includes a control voltage generation circuit, for generating control voltage having a generally constant voltage level irrespective of the level of a power supply voltage, and a bias generation circuit. The bias generation circuit generates bias voltage so that the node voltage of the shift circuit is substantially equalized with the control voltage.

    • An in-cylinder injection, spark ignited internal combustion engine including a fuel injection valve spraying fuel substantially in a sector having a relatively small thickness and spreading substantially vertically to implement homogenous combustion and stratified combustion, ensures that for stratified combustion a large portion of the sprayed fuel is injected into a cavity and thus sufficiently vaporized and positioned as a combustible air fuel mixture in a vicinity of an ignition plug. When input voltage VAIN is fetched, the first switches SW11A, SW12A, and SW13A are turned on so as to fetch high-order reference voltage VN1, VN2, and VN3 to the voltage holding capacitance elements C11, C12, and C13. The first switches SW11A, SW12A, and SW13A are turned off whereas the second switches SW11B, SW12B, and SW13B turned so that high-order-reference voltages VN1, VN2, and VN3 are supplied to the high-order comparators COM11, COMP12, and COMP13 for voltage comparison operation.

    • A voltage generating circuit for a digital to analog converter divides a potential difference between a high potential supply and a low potential supply. The voltage generating circuit includes a voltage dividing circuit having three impedance elements connected in series between the high potential supply and the low potential supply. A first current source is connected to a node between the first two series connected impedance elements and a second current source is connected to a node between the second and third series connected impedance elements. The first and second current source supply first and second currents having the same value to the first and second nodes, respectively. A control circuit compares a reference voltage with a selected voltage output from the voltage dividing circuit and controls the first and second currents supplied by the first and second current source so that the selected voltage is made equal to the reference voltage.

Accordingly, it is possible to distinguish between the character and half tone areas efficiently with a simple arrangement and simultaneously output an image of good quality.
