    • Image quality is improved by adjusting the ejection amount of quality enhancing ink based on the ejection amount of colored ink containing colorant. When a relatively high gross printing medium is used, the quality enhancing ink is ejected in an image area where virtually no colored ink is ejected, thereby improving unevenness in gloss within the print image. When a relatively low gross printing medium is used, on the other hand, the quality enhancing ink is ejected in an image area where the colored ink is ejected on virtually all pixels, thereby improving unevenness in color within the print image. The relationship between the ejection amounts of the quality enhancing ink and the colored ink may be modified by the user.

    • A portable electronic device having a display screen capable of changing display directions is disclosed. The portable electronic device, such as a tablet personal computer, includes a tiltmeter, a display direction determining circuit and a display direction changing circuit. The tiltmeter measures a first tilt angle of a first axis of a display screen of the portable electronic device with respect to a horizontal plane, and measures a second tilt angle of a second axis of the display screen of the portable electronic device with respect to the horizontal plane. The display direction determining circuit determines whether or not a display direction of the display screen is to be changed based on the changing conditions generated by the first tilt angle and the second tilt angle as measured by the tiltmeter. The display direction changing circuit changes the display direction of the display screen from a current display direction to a different display direction according to a determination result formed by the display direction determining circuit.

    • A plurality of same ink nozzle arrays are provided, and multiple color patches are printed with mutually different dot recording rates respectively using one of the same ink nozzle arrays. Color specification value of the plurality of color patches is measured for each same ink nozzle array. The ink ejection amount error of each same ink nozzle array is determined based on the color specification values of the plurality of color patches for each same ink nozzle array. It is also possible to select among the plurality of color patches a preferable color patch that is closest to a specified reference color patch, and to determine the ink ejection amount error from the dot recording rate of the preferable color patch.
