    • An air intake filter containing a filter insert within a canister. The canister includes a raw air inlet and an opening for the introduction of the filter insert, the filter insert having a sealing surface parallel to the plane of the opening to seal the clean-air side. This sealing surface is applied to another sealing surface on an adapter with a sealing ring interposed therebetween, and the canister is fastened to the adapter. To prevent any shearing movement on the sealing ring when the canister is attached to the adapter, a guide is provided on the adapter and is engaged by a sliding shoe disposed on the canister. Furthermore, a spacer is situated on the canister and assures that the canister cannot be laid against the adapter unless the two sealing surfaces are correctly positioned with respect to one another.

    • An air intake filter for internal combustion engines has a flat, replaceable filter insert through which air passes transversely in operation, and which can be inserted from one side into a filter housing. The filter insert has a gasket arranged on its periphery for sealing an end face of the filter insert against a lip on the filter housing. Sealing pressure is exerted by ledges on lateral portions of the filter housing which slant toward the filter insert in the direction of insertion. To prevent the gasket from being displaced laterally with respect to the lip on the filter housing when the sealing pressure is applied, the filter insert is received in a substantially open-faced frame. The frame has a closure member which is provided with abutments which engage on one side against the slanting ledges of the lateral portions of the filter housing and engage on the other side against the frame, and which can be pushed in the direction of insertion of the filter insert to a lockable closed position in which it exerts a sealing pressure on the filter gasket.

    • An air intake system for intake air of an internal combustion engine comprising a filter insert (19) in a housing (10) connected to the air conducting system by a plurality of inlets (13) and an outlet (22). The air inlets are provided with individual intake nozzles or fittings and lead to a single common air chamber (20) in the filter housing. The inlets (13) can be individually opened and closed by flap valves (24), thereby allowing the acoustics to be influenced favorably and enabling, for example, the respective intake fittings to be connected or disconnected depending on the temperature. The intake system requires only a limited number of components, and the design of the preferably wedge-shaped air chamber minimizes flow losses in the housing, which in turn decreases the intake noise. Shunt resonators (28) can also be formed using cover elements (29) and (30).

    • An adjustable intake pipe, especially for supplying combustion air to an internal combustion engine, which includes a collector chamber arranged in an essentially cylindrical control element. The collector chamber has a larger volume than required for the air supply, so the chamber is not used efficiently. In the invention, the collector chamber volume is used by arranging additional components of the intake tract defined by the intake pipe, i.e. of an internal combustion engine, within the collector chamber (11), for example, by arranging a resonance chamber (20) therein with the resonance chamber connected to the air supply system by through holes (19). This arrangement better utilizes the chamber volume and is particularly advantageous in motor vehicle engine compartments where limited space is available. The intake system also is more compact and has a lower overall weight.

    • A device for adjusting the intake air temperature of a carburetor-equipped internal combustion engine whose air intake system has a flapper valve in a duct junction admitting cold raw air and/or preheated raw air to the intake filter, depending on the raw air temperature, the flapper valve position being controlled by a pneumatic membrane actuator which receives negative pressure from the intake manifold, via a vacuum line with a thermostat-controlled relief valve responsive to the temperature of the air mixture. In the drive connection between the membrane actuator and the flapper is arranged a wax thermostat which increases or decreases the effective length of the connection in response to the ambient air temperature, thereby adding the thermostat displacements to the actuator displacements, the effective length of the drive connection being further adjustable by means of a threaded connection which is arranged between the membrane support body of the actuator and the wax thermostat.
