    • The invention includes pliers with self-adjustment capability for applying an initial grasping force to a workpiece and for augmenting the initial grasping force applied to the workpiece. The pliers are structured such that angular displacement of a handle portion of a first plier member is smaller than angular displacement of a jaw portion of the first plier member during an initial movement of the handle portions toward each other for applying the initial grasping force to the workpiece. In addition, the pliers are structured such that angular displacement of the handle portion of the first plier member is larger than angular displacement of the jaw portion of the first plier member to permit augmenting of the initial grasping force applied to the workpiece during a continued movement of the handle portions toward each other.

    • A gas outlet apparatus (10) is configured to provide a medical gas outlet for a gas supply line (62). The apparatus (10) includes a front cover (12) formed to include a gas outlet opening (14), a back plate (24) coupled to the front cover (12), and a gas outlet barrel (30) having an inlet end, an outlet end (80), and a valve located between the inlet end and the outlet end (80). The apparatus (10) also includes a retention portion located on the back plate (24). The retention portion is configured to engage the barrel (30) adjacent the outlet end (80) to secure the barrel (30) to the back plate (24) and the cover (12) and with the outlet end (80) of the barrel (30) in alignment with the gas outlet opening (14) formed in the front cover (12).

    • Self adjusting pliers for grasping a workpiece include first and second plier members each including a handle portion, a jaw portion, and an intermediate portion therebetween. The self-adjusting pliers include a first pivot pin about which the first and second plier members pivot permitting the jaw portions to converge on a workpiece and grasp the workpiece in response to initial movement of the handle portions toward each other. The self adjusting pliers further include a second pivot pin about which the pliers pivot once pivoting has been terminated about the first pivot pin so as to permit a further grasping force to be applied to the workpiece in response to continued movement of the handle portions toward each other. The second pivot pin is closer to the jaw portions than the first pivot pin to allow for a greater mechanical advantage to be obtained. The self adjusting pliers also include a biasing spring for biasing the handle portions away from each other and the jaw portions away from each other. Self-locking pliers are also provided, either in combination with the self-adjusting pliers or individually, for automatically locking the jaw portions into engagement with a workpiece.
