    • A firefighting garment including: an outer shell of abrasion, flame and heat resistant material selected from a group consisting of an aramid material, a blend of aramid materials, PBI material, and a blend of aramid and PBI materials; a thermal liner, positioned within the outer shell and including a batting of needlepunch or nonwoven aramid material, or a blend of such aramid materials stitched to a first face cloth layer of aramid material, a knit collar and arms having knit wristlets; and a second face cloth layer of aramid material, positioned within the thermal liner; where the material of the outer shell, the thermal liner including the collar and wristlets, and the second face cloth layer are all treated with a durable, water repellant finish. The firefighting garment does not require a discrete moisture barrier layer, yet possesses the necessary thermal protection ratings for use as a firefighting garment; thus, the firefighting garment is relatively thin and lightweight, thereby minimizing the bulk and reducing the hobbling effect of such a garment, and the reducing the material costs of the garment. The firefighting garment substantially reduces the amount of liquid moisture absorbed by the thermal liner, thereby maintaining the insulative properties of the thermal liner and maintaining desirable lightweight properties for longer periods. Further, the firefighting garment enhances the transport of moisture vapor therethrough for breathability and enhanced body-cooling.

    • A protective garment having an outer shell and a thermal liner having a layer of apertured, closed-cell foam material. In a preferred embodiment, the foam material is fire retardant and the layer is bonded to the outer shell, and the garment includes a moisture barrier layer positioned between the foam liner and the wearer of the garment. The closed-cell foam liner is non-moisture absorbent and provides high thermal insulation for its weight and thickness in comparison to prior art thermal liners, so that a relatively thin layer of foam material may be used. Accordingly, the overall weight of the garment is minimized, as is the movement-restricting effect of the liner. The non-absorbency of the foam liner allows the liner to be positioned between the moisture barrier and the outer shell of the garment so that the liner does not restrict flow of perspiration moisture vapor from the wearer to the moisture barrier. The apertures formed in the foam liner promote transport through the liner of moisture vapor from the wearer which passes through the moisture barrier. Such closed-cell foam material may be used both as a continuous thermal barrier extending throughout the garment and/or in selected areas which require additional padding or thermal resistance.

    • A firefighter pant support system for use with firefighter pants having an outer sheel of a fire and moisture resistant material and an inner liner of a heat resistant material wherein the inner liner is removable from the outer shell. The support system includes a vest member having a body preferably made of a heat-resistant open mesh, and a waistband having a plurality of button holes for receiving fasteners, such as buttons or fastener studes, such that the vest member supports the pant liner and outer shell when worn by a user. In an alternate embodiment, the vest member is stitched permanently to the liner to make a jump pant. The vest member distributes the weight of the pant liner and pant shell over a broader area than conventional suspenders, provides a layer of thermal protection for the upper body of the wearer and can carry reflective trim detectable when the wearer removes his firefighter coat.

    • A hazardous duty garment includes an outer shell layer of heat-, flame-, and abrasion-resistant aramid material and a pad attached to the outer shell layer, where the pad includes a fabric substrate of heat-, flame-, and abrasion-resistant material bonded to a layer of silicone foam material. Preferably, the fabric substrate is a woven aramid and carbon fiber, face cloth material and is treated with a durable, water-repellant finish. Preferably, the pad is stitched to the outer surface of the outer shell layer and oriented such that the layer of silicone foam material faces the outer shell layer. The pad is used in the knee portion of a pant leg of a firefighter garment, as well as on an elbow or forearm portion of a sleeve of a firefighter garment and on a shoulder portion of a firefighter duty garment.
