    • This invention relates to a tube prepared by the process comprising the steps of (1) blending polymer composition comprising (A) ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer and greater than 0.020% by weight of a cross-linking agent; or (B) a mixture of (a) a major amount of an ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer, (b) a minor amount of one or more polymers selected from (i) an propylene ethylene copolymer, (ii) at least one selectively hydrogenated block copolymer of a vinyl aromatic hydrocarbon and a conjugated diene, (iii) at least one selectively hydrogenated block copolymer of a vinyl aromatic hydrocarbon and a conjugated diene to which has been grafted with an alpha,beta-olefinically unsaturated monocarboxylic or dicarboxylic acid reagent, (iv) at least one terpolymer of an alpha-olefin, at least one acrylic ester, and an alpha,beta-olefinically unsaturated dicarboxylic acid reagent, or a glycidyl acrylate, (v) at least copolymer of an alpha-olefin and at least one acrylic ester, (vi) at least one vinyl aromatic hydrocarbon; and (vii) at least one polyetheramide block copolymer, and optionally, (c) a cross-linking agent provided that when (b) is (i), then the mixture includes the cross linking agent (c); and (2) extruding the polymer composition into the tube. The present invention also relates to polymer compositions for making the tubing. The tubes, especially medical tubes, of the present invention have improved kink resistance, coilability, clarity, flexibility and stability under sterilization conditions.

    • A thermal ink-jet pen cartridge having a rigid external frame member fabricated of a rigid engineering plastic, and an interior frame structure attached thereto, formed of a sorer, more ductile plastic material than the rigid engineering plastic. An ink reservoir is defined by the interior structure and a pair of flexible bag membranes formed of a plastic material impervious to the ink and compatible with the interior member material, allowing the membranes to be joined to the interior member to form a leak-proof joint. The interior frame structure is fabricated from a polymer blend composition comprising (A) at least one polymer selected from the group consisting of a polyethylene and a copolymer of ethylene and an alpha-olefin and (B) at least one polymer selected from the group consisting of a polypropylene and a copolymer of propylene and ethylene, wherein (A) is different from (B). The present polymer compositions provide good chemical and heat stabilities and solvent resistance when subjected to inks used in printing. Further, the present polymer compositions are flexible and have excellent compatibility and adhesion to the various polymeric components used in the ink-jet cartridge.

    • This invention relates to a polymer article prepared by the process comprising the steps of: (1) blending polymer composition comprising (A) at least one ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer, (B) at least one propylene ethylene copolymer, and (C) (1) from about 0.01% to about 5% by weight of a cross-linking agent, (2) from about 0.1% to about 35% by weight of one or more polymers selected from: (i) at least one co-, or terpolymer of at least one vinyl aromatic compound; (ii) at least one co-, or terpolymer of an alpha-olefin, and at least one monomer selected from the group consisting of an acrylic acid, an acrylic ester, a vinyl silane, and a vinyl alcohol; (iii) at least one polyolefin other than a propylene homopolymer or a propylene-ethylene copolymer; (iv) at least one polyetheramide block copolymer; (v) at least one ionomer; (vi) at least one oxidized polyolefin wax, or mixtures of (1) and (2); and forming the polymer composition into the article. This invention also relates to articles such as bags, pouches, tubing, closures, etc. The polymer articles of the present invention can be used to form a variety of medical parts with good mechanical properties. The polymer articles are RF weldable and have a low specific gravity, allowing down-gauging and improved processing relative to PVC. In addition, the polymer articles are sterilizable by a wide variety of methods including steam, gamma, ethylene oxide and E-beam techniques, as well as possessing high contact and see-through clarity and excellent barrier properties. These polymer films are halogen free. The articles do not produce toxic or corrosive chemicals upon incineration. Thus, these articles do not pose an environmental disposal problem.

    • The present invention provides a method of forming a polymer-wood composite structure and additive systems for use therein. The method of the invention includes extruding a heated mixture that includes from about 20% to about 80% by weight of a thermoplastic polymer, from about 20% to about 80% by weight of a cellulosic filler material, and from about 0.1% to about 10% by weight of an additive system. The additive system according the invention includes a blend of from about 10% to about 90% by weight of a nonionic compatibilizer having an HLB value of from about 9 to about 19 and from about 10% to about 90% by weight of a lubricant. Use of the method and additive system according to the invention facilitates the production of highly filled polymer-wood composite structures at a very high output rate while maintaining commercially acceptable surface appearance. Moreover, the method and additive system according to the invention facilitate the reprocessing of scrap material generated during the production of polymer-wood composite structures without degrading the surface appearance of the polymer-wood composite structures.
