摘要： An information handling system (IHS) includes a power supply unit (PSU) and a power assist unit (PAU). The PSU provides power to a power rail at a first voltage level when he IHS is in a first platform state, and at a second voltage level when the IHS is in a second platform state. The PAU includes a power storage element, a converter coupled to the power storage element and to the power rail, and a controller. The controller determines whether the IHS is operating in the first or second platform state, directs the converter to provide power from the power storage element to the power rail at the first voltage level when the information handling system is in the first platform state, and to direct the converter to provide power from the power storage element to the power rail at the second voltage level when the information handling system is in the second platform state.

摘要： An information handling system includes a power assist unit (PAU) and a baseboard management controller (BMC). The PAU is coupled to a power rail and includes a power storage element, a converter coupled to the power storage element and the power rail, and a controller. The controller receives a current level indication indicating a current provided to a load of the information handling system, directs the converter to provide power from the power storage element to the power rail when the current level indication is greater than a threshold level, directs the converter charge the power storage element from the power rail when the current level indication is greater than the threshold level, and provides a charge level indication that indicates an amount of charge on the power storage unit. The BMC receives the charge level indication, and sets a peak power limit for the information handling system based on the charge level indication.

The PSU provides a power rail to power a load, and a constant current indication that indicates whether the power supply unit is operating in a constant current mode. The PAU is coupled to the power rail, and includes a power storage element, a converter coupled to the power storage element and to the power rail, and a controller. The controller receives an enable signal when the constant current indication indicates that the first power supply unit is operating in the constant current mode, and in response, the controller directs the converter to convert a voltage from the power storage element and to a current to the power rail to meet an additional demand of the load for power. When the controller does not receive the enable signal, the controller directs the converter to charge the power storage element from the power rail.

摘要： A halt event separates a boot up operation from a run time operation. A controller grants a request from a baseboard management controller for an electrical power associated with a boot-up operation. As the baseboard management controller completes the boot-up operation (such as a power on self-test), the baseboard management controller predicts the electrical power that is required for a run time operation (e.g., executing an operating system). The baseboard management controller is then required or forced to submit a subsequent request for the additional electrical power that is required for the run time operation. The controller compares the electrical power predicted for the run time operation to a power availability from a power supply (such as a safe or maximum operating condition). If the power supply can provide the electrical power predicted to be required during the run time operation, then the controller may permit or authorize a transition from the boot up operation to the run time operation. However, if the power supply cannot provide the electrical power predicted to be required during the run time operation, then the controller denies the run time operation.
