    • A lamp (10) has a light source (12) with a distal portion (14) and a proximal portion (16), the proximal portion (16) comprising a press seal (17) having a given cross-section. A lamp envelope (18) receives the light source (12), the envelope (18) being arrayed about a longitudinal axis (20) and having a base (22) generally orthogonal to the longitudinal axis (20). A clip-receiving aperture (24) is formed in the base (22), and at least one clip locator surface (26, 52, 54) is formed in the base (22) adjacent the clip-receiving aperture (24). A clip (28) is positioned in the clip-receiving aperture (24), the clip having a passage (29) shaped and formed to receive the press seal (17) of the light source (12) therein. The clip (28) has at least one first retainer (32) and at least one second retainer (33), the at least one first retainer (32) being shaped and formed to engage the at least one clip locator surface (26, 52, 54), whereby the clip (28) is located within the clip-receiving aperture (24). The at least one second retainer (33) is shaped and formed to secure the clip (28) to the base (22), and at least one third retainer (34) is shaped and formed to secure the press seal (17) of the light source (12) within the clip (28).

    • A glow discharge starter having an hermetically sealed, thin-walled envelope of vitreous material, a press seal located at one end thereof and containing an ionizable medium. A pair of non-segmented electrical conductors extend through the press seal and terminate in a spaced relationship to form a pair of electrodes within the envelope. The electrodes are held in the spaced relationship substantially by the press seal. At least one of the electrodes has a bimetallic element secured thereto. The bimetallic element is deformable by heat into engagement with the other electrode. Preferably, the envelope has a wall thickness in the range of from about 0.015 inch to less than about 0.025 inch.

    • A compact PAR lamp (10) has a hollow body (12) arrayed along a longitudinal axis (14) and has an open end (16) and a substantially closed neck end (18) and containing a light source capsule (20) within the hollow body (12) and coaxial with the longitudinal axis (14). The light source capsule (20) has electrical lead-ins (22, 24) that extend therefrom and exit via the neck end (18). A first parabolic reflector (26) is formed within the body (12) and has a wide portion (28) adjacent the open end (16) and a narrow portion (30) spaced therefrom along the longitudinal axis (14). A second reflector (32) is formed within the body (12) and extends from the narrow portion (30) into the neck end (18). A lens (34) closes the open (16), and a base (36) is attached to the closed neck end (18). In an alternate version the light source (20) comprises an arc discharge vessel (44) containing electrodes (46, 48) having termini (46′, 48′) defining an arc gap (50) therebetween and the focal points of the second reflector (when the second reflector is ellipsoidal) correspond with the termini (46′, 48′).
