    • A router comprises a route resolution module to maintain routing information in accordance with a topology of a network, and an indirect next hop manager to maintain indirect next hop data that associates protocol next hops with forwarding next hops. The route resolution module invokes an application programming interface (API) of the indirect next hop manager for associating and disassociating protocol next hops and forwarding next hops. In response to a network event, the route resolution module can modify the indirect next hop data to reduce the time and resources necessary to perform route resolution.

    • A network system uses a management routing instance to route management information between elements involved in management of the system. The system registers each element in the management routing instance when the element comes on line. Based on the management routing instance, the system creates management forwarding tables. The system then uses the management forwarding tables to route management information between the elements. Multiple systems, for example systems connected by a network, may exchange management routing instance information to allow elements in different systems to communicate management information with each other.

    • Techniques are described for supporting end-to-end resource reservation protocols, such as the Resource Reservation Setup Protocol (RSVP), using Multi-protocol Label Switching (MPLS). A routing device, such as an edge router coupling a local network to another network, aggregates packet flow reservation requests, and maps the resource requests to Labeled Switch Paths (LSPs) capable of supporting the requested resources. Requests having common forwarding equivalence classes may be aggregated to flow through a single LSP having resources, such as bandwidth, capable of supporting the requests. Routers and other devices within the network need not monitor and support state information associated with the individual end-to-end packet flows. A method, for example, includes mapping requests for end-to-end packet flows through a network to LSPs within the network, and forwarding packets associated with the end-to-end packet flows along the LSPs based on the mapping.

    • A socket terminal assembly includes a socket body having a first end with a first opening to receive a contact element and a second opening at a second end to receive a pin. A contact element, located in the first opening, is configured to contact the corresponding connection region of a printed circuit board; a pin has an end adapted to contact an electrical contacting area of an integrated circuit package and an opposite end configured to be inserted within the opening of the socket body. A contact spring in the second opening receives the pin and applies a frictional force sufficient to retain the lower end of the pin within the opening of the socket body. A resilient member is disposed within the opening between the contact element and the contact spring. The resilient member applies to the pin and contact element, in response to a downward force applied to the pin or an upward force applied to the contact element, a force sufficient to overcome the frictional force of the contact spring. An intercoupling component includes a socket support member having holes, each hole receiving a corresponding socket terminal assembly.
