    • Method and arrangement in a source radio network node for reducing the amount of user equipment related data forwarded to a target radio network node, when performing a handover of a user equipment. The method comprises determining that the user equipment is to perform a handover from the source radio network node to the target radio network node, increasing the polling frequency of polls sent to the user equipment, transmitting a poll to the user equipment, receiving a status message from the user equipment, as a response to the transmitted poll, dropping the data which, according to the received status message have been acknowledged by the user equipment, and forwarding the data which have not been acknowledged by the user equipment according to the received status message, to the target radio network node.

    • The mobile station described herein comprises a transmission buffer, a receiver, a transmitter, and a controller. The controller triggers a scheduling request and buffer status report when data enters the transmission buffer. When the receiver receives a contention-based scheduling grant allocating contention-based uplink resources, the transmitter transmits one or more data packets retrieved from the transmission buffer along with the buffer status report on the contention-based resources to the network station. If one or more data packets remain in the transmission buffer after transmission of the buffer status report on the contention-based resources, the controller maintains the pending status of the buffer status report and the corresponding scheduling request.

    • A method implemented at a user equipment (UE) may include receiving a grant from a base station permitting the user equipment to transmit data to the base station and transmitting data to the base station, where the data includes a buffer status report (BSR) that indicates an amount of data in a buffer of the UE. The method may further include starting or restarting a discontinuous reception (DRX) timer when the data including the BSR is transmitted to the base station. The method may additionally include monitoring (730) a control channel during a duration of the DRX timer. In another implementation, a method may include receiving a feedback message in response to the data transmission including the BSR, and starting or restarting the discontinuous reception (DRX) timer when the feedback message is received. The feedback message may include an acknowledgement (ACK) or a negative acknowledgement (NACK). In a further implementation, a method may include starting a process specific hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) round trip time (RTT) timer upon transmission of the data including the BSR, starting a grant timer when the HARQ RTT timer expires, and monitoring the control channel during a duration of the grant timer.
