    • A radioactive pellet injection apparatus includes a console (30) to be disposed beside a bed on which a patient is to be laid. The console (30) and the bed have brackets. An arm (39) is detachably coupled to the bracket of either one of the console (30) and the bed. The arm (39) is movable in either the horizontal or the vertical direction. A rotary driving unit (46) is mounted at a distal end of the arm (39) in such a manner that the tilt angle thereof can be adjusted about a horizontal axis (44) in response to a control signal. The rotary driving unit (46) carries a protective container (48) enclosing a capsule (60) with minute, spherical radioactive pellets enclosed therein, and a radiation detector (49) facing a catheter connecting section (50) extending from the capsule (60). A pump unit (32a) for supplying a carrier fluid for carrying radioactive pellets to the capsule (60) through a tube (51), a control circuit (32b) supplying a control signal to the rotary driving unit (46), and a detector circuit (32c) for processing a detection signal from the radiation detector (49) are disposed in the console (30).

    • In a vehicle navigation apparatus having a control section which calculates relative vehicle positions and travel direction by dead reckoning calculations based on outputs from on-board sensors and periodically acquires GPS measurement data via a GPS receiver and applies error-reduction filter processing to these data to obtain position and travel direction information for correcting the calculated relative positions, the apparatus has a function for detecting that a travel direction obtained by dead reckoning contains an excessive error, and when that condition is detected, for directly applying an estimated vehicle position and travel direction derived directly from the GPS data, without filter processing, to correct the corresponding relative position and travel direction estimates. Rapid correction can thereby be achieved when the vehicle has been operated in a condition whereby a large amount of error has suddenly arisen in the travel direction that is estimated by the apparatus through dead reckoning calculation, e.g., after the vehicle has been rotated on a turntable with the vehicle navigation apparatus inoperative.

    • The device according to the invention detects deterioration of a catalytic converter disposed in an exhaust passage of an internal combustion engine based on output signal response curves of the air-fuel ratio sensors disposed in the exhaust passage upstream and downstream of the catalytic converter, by determining that the catalytic converter has deteriorated when relationship of a ratio of the lengths of the output response curves of the upstream and downstream air-fuel ratio sensors and a ratio of the areas bounded by the output signal response curves and reference lines satisfies predetermined conditions during air-fuel ratio feedback control of the engine; to eliminate errors the detection during a transition of the operating condition of the engine, the device also determine a degree of transition of the operating condition of the engine, for example, by detecting number of reversals of the output signal of the upstream air-fuel ratio sensor, and corrects the value of the ratio of the areas of the output signal response curves in accordance with the degree of the transition of the operating condition of the engine; thus the deterioration of the catalytic converter is detected accurately both in the transition operating condition and in the stable operating condition.
