    • An amplifier (60) provides an amplified video signal in response to a video input signal supplied thereto. A cathode current sensor (Q3), couples an output of the amplifier to the cathode of a kinescope (20) and also provides an output current (Ik) proportional to the kinescope cathode current. A feedback path (82) applies a portion of the sensed cathode current provided by the cathode current sensor to a circuit node (65 or 63) in the amplifier for imparting gamma correction to images produced by the kinescope. In one application the cathode current is apportioned (Q3, Q5) to provide gamma correction for the kinescope and to provide automatic kinescope bias (AKB) control.

    • A rotary sliding closure unit includes a stationary support frame adapted to be mounted removably adjacent to pouring opening of a liquid melt container. A stationary refractory plate has therethrough a flow passage and has an annular, ring-shaped configuration. The stationary refractory plate is supported by the stationary support frame such that the flow passage is in communication with the pouring opening. A rotary refractory plate is positioned in sliding abutting contact with the stationary refractory plate, has therethrough a plurality of flow passages to be moved selectively into and out of alignment with the flow passage of the stationary refractory plate, and has an annular, ring-shaped configuration. A rotary support frame supports the rotary refractory plate against the stationary refractory plate for rotational movement with respect thereto. The stationary and rotary refractory plates have complementary, annular, abutting relative sliding surfaces. The stationary and rotary support frames are disc-shaped members. Structure is provided to coaxially align the stationary and rotary support frames, and the stationary and rotary refractory plates and to urge the rotary refractory plate toward the stationary refractory plate.

    • A closing plate for a sliding closure on the spout of a receptacle for molten metal, especially of a converter, includes an elongate refractory plate and a sheet metal jacket surrounding the same. The refractory plate has a sliding surface which can be braced with a sliding surface of a refractory closure plate interacting therewith or with a sliding surface of a refractory head part. The refractory plate has at least one tapering section which forms an angle with the sliding surface on at least one side delimiting the sliding surface, each tapering section being associated with a section of the refractory plate that projects beyond the sheet metal jacket. The closing plate reduces the risk of damage to the front faces of the refractory parts reduced during bracing of the parts with each other and/or during a relative adjustment of the refractory parts that are braced with each other.

    • The invention relates to a fireproof unit for a sliding closure at the spout of a container containing metal melt, comprising a fireproof adapter block (21) that can be placed on the container spout, a fireproof bottom plate (10) connected thereto, to which bottom plate a slidable fireproof sliding plate (18) can be connected, wherein the sliding plate allows the sliding closure (1) to be opened or closed. In addition to the first bottom plate (10) connected to the adapter block (21), a second bottom plate (12) adjoins the adapter block. The second bottom plate can be slid in under the adapter block to replace the first bottom plate. The adapter block (21) has such a length in the direction of the second bottom plate (12) that the adapter block is in sliding contact with said second bottom plate (12) at the lower sliding surface (21′) of the adapter block.

    • A switching “power (100) includes a single, power switching Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor Field Effect Transistor (MOSFET) (Q1) that without any additional transistor provides both self-oscillation and over-current protection. A transformer (Tr1) that is included in a positive feedback path of the MOSFET has a tapped (intermediate terminal 103) auto-transformer winding. A source terminal (102) of the MOSFET is coupled via a current limiting resistor (R2) to a junction terminal between first (n1)and second (n2) windings of the tapped auto-transformer (Tr1). The first winding forms the primary winding of the transformer and the second winding is coupled to a gate terminal of the MOSFET to form a regenerative feedback path. The second winding is direct-current (DC) coupled to the gate terminal to avoid the need for any discrete capacitor in the positive feedback path.
