    • Disclosed is a solid-state imaging device wherein optical information of a number of photo-electric conversion elements arranged in a matrix is read into vertical signal lines by a vertical shift register and then the optical information on the vertical signal lines is horizontally scanned by a horizontal register of a charge transfer device. Bias charge storage means and quasi-signal sweep-out drains are disposed between the horizontal register and the vertical signal lines, and a bias charge input means is arranged in the horizontal register. In order to ensure high efficiency in transferring signals between the vertical lines to the storage means, the sweep-out drains and the charge transfer device, it is arranged for bias charges to be provided at each stage of transfer. Thus, bias charges supplied from the storage means are used to transfer charges from the vertical lines to the storage means. Similarly bias charges directly injected from the quasi-signal sweep-out drains are used to sweep out quasi-signals from the storage means to the quasi-signal sweep-out drains. Finally bias charges supplied from the bias charge input means of the charge transfer device are used to read signals from the storage means into the charge transfer device. By virtue of this, the sweep-out efficiency of the quasi-signals from the capacitances which supply the bias charges and a read-out efficiency of the signal charges are enhanced and a high quality of video signal is produced.

    • A solid state image pickup device includes a matrix array of pn-junction type photo-diodes formed in a monolithic semiconductor substrate, vertical switching FET's of MOS type each connected to the associated photo diode for reading out electric charge stored therein, a vertical shift register for supplying control pulses to gate terminals of the vertical switching MOS FET's, vertical output conductors each for connecting together those of the vertical switching MOS FET's arrayed in the same rows, horizontal switching MOS FET's for horizontal read out connected to the other end of the vertical output conductors, a horizontal shift register for supplying control pulses to gate terminals of the horizontal switching MOS FET's and a horizontal output conductor connecting in common the outputs of the horizontal switching MOS FET's. The image pickup device further comprises means for varying the potential at the grounded terminal of the vertical shift register during the horizontal blanking period, and a group of MOS type FET switches connected to the other ends of the vertical output conductors, whereby surplus electric charge at the photo-diodes, if any, is removed through the MOS FET switches during the horizontal blanking period.

    • A data transmission apparatus of an orthogonal frequency multiplex modulation system wherein data is transmitted using a plurality of carriers which are in a mutually orthogonal relationship with one another. The apparatus includes a transmitter which previously inserts a group of predetermined synchronization symbols into an OFDM modulated transmission signal every fixed period and a receiver which demodulates a received OFDM modulated transmission signal to a baseband OFDM signal. In the receiver, an absolute value of an A/D converted digital signal is taken and the signal is bandwidth-limited to a predetermined band width. Then, it is decided whether an amplitude of the signal is larger than or smaller than a predetermined value and a decision result thereof is produced. A null section in the synchronization symbol group is detected on the basis of the decision result and a start point of another synchronization symbol subsequent to the null section is further detected. The time when both of the presence of the null section and the start point of another synchronization symbol are detected is regarded as a synchronization timing and the operation timing of a demodulator for the receiver is set to the synchronization timing.
