    • An air vent for ventilation installations in vehicles comprises a housing (10) which defines an air outlet channel (12), and a manual operating element (24) formed by a partial sphere to adjust direction and flow rate of air delivered by the vent. The operating element (24) is mounted in the housing to be rotatable about two axes perpendicular to each other. The air vent further comprises a first set of blades (18) that are pivotally mounted in the air outlet channel (12) and coupled with each other for joint motion, an actuating arm (28) connected with the operating element (24) and adapted to pivot about one of the two axes, and a coupling link (30) connecting the blades with the actuating arm. The air vent has a second set of blades (20) pivotally mounted in the air outlet channel (12) and coupled with each other for joint motion, a cam disk (32) mounted in the housing to rotate about the other of the two axes and coupled with the operating element for joint rotation, and a pivotal lever (36) mounted in the housing and connecting the second set of blades (20) with the cam disc (32).

    • An air vent is provided that is capable of delivering a distributed divergent air flow with a predominant direction of flow that can be changed within a wide range of mutually perpendicular directions. In one embodiment, the air vent has an outlet grid that is generally ball shaped and that is rotatably mounted at an end of an air duct for rotation about its center. Each of the multiple outlet openings of the grid points to a direction that is different from pointing directions of all other outlet openings so that a divergent air flow is obtained. By rotating the ball shaped grid about its center, the predominant direction of air flow can nevertheless be changed in a within a wide range.

    • The invention relates to a device that facilitates the control of units forming part of the equipment of a vehicle. The device comprises an input device for the purpose of inputting actions (such as communication, entertainment, . . . ) that are part of a set of pre-determined actions that can be realised by at least one of the units, and to transform the inputs into a signal representing the action, a memory in which is filed a relational database in which each action from the set is allocated to at least one unit that can realise that action, and a control unit that is connected to the input device, the memory and the units. The control unit is embodied in such a way that, on reception of a signal representing a required action from the input device, it makes use of the relational database filed in the memory to assign the action to a unit that can realise that action, and to send a control signal to the allocated unit by means of which the realisation of the required action by the allocated unit is initiated. In contrast to previous unit-orientated menu structures in centralised unit control systems, a convenient and simplified control procedure of units located within a vehicle is now made possible, since there is no longer any need for the user to be informed about the individual units and their functions. The invention also relates to a procedure to facilitate the control of units forming part of the equipment of a vehicle.
