    • A connector 60 for disk-shaped batteries 40 including a housing 62 with a battery receiving cavity 74, opposed endwalls 66 having spring arms 68 that extend outwardly from the cavity 74 for retaining the battery 40 in the housing 62, a surface mountable positive terminal 77, and a surface mountable negative terminal 79. The positive and negative terminals 77,79, are disposed in respective terminal receiving passageways 72 of the housing with spring arm contact sections 80 opposing each other along the housing sidewalls and with surface mountable connecting sections 84 of both the terminals 77,79, extending outwardly from respective the housing sidewalls 64 at the bottoms thereof. The terminals are electrically engageable with battery electrodes on opposed surfaces of the battery, and the surface mountable connecting sections thereof are spaced apart at least the thickness of a the battery, being a sufficient distance from each other to prevent bridging therebetween when the connecting sections are soldered to respective circuit pads on a circuit board.

    • A pivotal plug and receptacle connector assembly (10) is disclosed. The plug housing (40) has an opening (48) at each end formed integral thereto that engage hinge pins (142,144) extending from opposite ends of the mating receptacle housing (100). The hinge pins are arranged to snap into place within the openings and allow for relative pivotal motion of 180 degrees while maintaining electrical contact between the plug contacts (60) and the receptacle contacts (118). The plug contacts are blade shaped having two contacting surfaces (70,72) on opposite sides of the blade (64). The receptacle contacts include a pair of substantially parallel beams (122,124) having opposing contact surfaces (135,137) adjacent their ends, the two beams converging slightly near their ends (132,134) to provide two point contact with a mated plug contact (60). The plug and receptacle connectors are easily mated and separated during use.

    • A card securing mechanism for retaining a card 90 in a reader includes a cam 66 pivotally mounted to a guide arm 20 associated with a side edge 94 of a card 90. The cam 66 is mounted at the entrance 34 of a card-receiving channel 30 proximate and beside a push button 36 slidably mounted along the guide arm 20 such that a first cam portion 74 can be rotated into and out of the channel 30. The first cam portion 74 has a notch 76 dimensioned to receive and secure a corner 96 of a card 90 when the card 90 is fully within a reader and the first portion 74 is rotated into the channel 30. A second cam portion 78 is adapted to be engaged by an actuator activated by the card ejection mechanism 50. The cam 66 is pivoted to a card engaging position upon insertion of a card 90 into the card reader. Upon activating the card ejection mechanism, the actuator permits cam 66 to be pivoted from a card engaging position to a card releasing position as the card 90 is urged outwardly of the channel 30 by a card ejection mechanism 50.

    • A high pin-density electrical connector of the type comprising a rear housing having openings for the passage of elongated, shouldered, electrical contacts through it, and having latching elements on its front face comprising spring fingers which close on the contacts behind their shoulders to latch them against withdrawal. A front housing provides recesses in which each of the latching elements and the front end of a corresponding one of the contacts are seated, with the sidewalls of the recesses providing support for the spring fingers. Close spacings of adjacent contacts are achieved by locating at least some of the recesses so close together that their walls intersect to form a communicating opening between them, and by placing the spring fingers circumferentially in their respective recesses so as to be in apposition to and supported by complete recess walls, rather than at the position of one of the communicating openings, where wall support for the fingers would be absent. Preferably the fingers in each recess are two in number, diametrically opposed to each other across the recess, and at 90.degree. circumferentially from any communicating opening between the contiguous recesses.

The diverging (72; 74) and converging (76; 78) sections diverge and converge, respectively, with respect to the axis (58) of the boardlock (52) in the direction from the body portion (54) to the free ends (68; 70). The diverging sections (72; 74) of the first and second (64; 66) pairs of legs overlap in axial range thereby extending the thickness of the printed circuit board (26) that can be accommodated.
