摘要： Techniques and architecture are disclosed for providing a laser system. In one specific example embodiment, the system includes a thulium-doped fiber laser coupled by silica glass fiber to a remote optical converter (ROC) including a Ho:YAG laser and, optionally, an optical parametric oscillator (OPO) utilizing zinc germanium phosphide (ZnGeP2; ZGP) or orientation-patterned gallium arsenide (OPGaAs). The fiber laser may emit a low-peak-power, continuous wave pump signal that pumps the Ho:YAG laser, which in turn emits a higher-peak-power, pulsed signal. When included, the OPO can be used to convert the resultant, pulsed signal to a longer wavelength (e.g., about 2-5 μm, or greater). In some cases, distributed architecture and reduced weight/bulk may be realized while eliminating the need to actively cool the ROC for operation, for example, over a broad temperature range (e.g., −55-125° C.). Also, methods of preparing high-peak-power, pulsed signals using such systems are disclosed.

In one aspect, the transition-metal nitrosyl complex is represented by the formula L.sub.3 M(NO).sub.y X.sub.3-y where L is a two-electron Lewis base or L.sub.3 is a six-electron Lewis base, M is a Group 6 or 8 transition-metal, and when y is 1, X is carbon monoxide, and when y is 2, X is a halide or pseudohalide. In another aspect, the transition-metal nitrosyl complex is represented by the formula �M(NO).sub.2 X.sub.y !.sub.2 where X is a halide or pseudohalide, and when M is a Group 6 transition-metal, y is 2, and when M is a Group 8 transition-metal, y is 1. Methods are also described for treating hypertension, angina pectoris, congestive heart disease, and impotence utilizing pharmaceutical compositions comprising the above-described transition-metal nitrosyl complexes.

The present invention is particularly applicable to the preparation of electrostatic paper masters of improved water resistance for lithographic printing having a photoconductive layer and a barrier coat to which the photoconductive layer is applied. The barrier coat contains a binding amount of a binder resin and filler at least a portion of which is an amount of said plastic particles sensitive to the solvent system of the photoconductive layer, the amount of plastic particles and sensitivity being sufficient to materially increase water resistance.
