    • Perceived interactivity in user communications is achieved by reducing a perceived delay switching the active transmitter in the communication without having to reduce actual transmission and setup delays associated with a communication exchange. A sound signal is identified in the user communication. The sound signal is analyzed to identify or estimate a sound signal segment. The sound signal segment is preferably (though not necessarily) located at the beginning or the end of the sound signal. The sound signal segment may be selected directly from the sound signal itself, from a modified version of the sound signal, or from a signal associated with the sound signal. A determination is made that a length or duration of the sound signal segment should be or can be modified. One or more modifications for the sound signal segment are determined and are provided to one or more processing units to perform the modification(s).

    • A method and apparatus for delivering network operator advertisements to a mobile terminal in association with providing content from a content delivery network (CDN) are disclosed. A network node resides within a wireless communication network supporting the mobile terminal. The network node receives a content request directed to locally-cached content from the CDN, and determines that the requested content includes or is associated with an advertisement placeholder. In response to this determination, the network node sends an advertisement ID request that includes a network operator ID to an external advertisement server. An advertisement ID is received from the advertisement server responsive to the advertisement ID request. The network node maps the advertisement ID to a network operator advertisement associated with the advertisement ID, and dynamically links the network operator advertisement to the requested content. The network node delivers the requested content, including the network operator advertisement, to the mobile terminal.

A second communication system and method may include a wireless terminal and a network device (e.g., a network transmitter/receiver terminal), each containing at least a portion of an Internet Protocol stack, and the network device may include a header modification means that may reduce or eliminate the header from VoIP packets it will send to the wireless terminal.

    • The present invention is directed to providing a method and apparatus for efficiently compressing and reconstructing a header of a real time communication packet. In a header compressor, a header field value is applied to a modulo X operator which can, for example, divide the header field value by a value X, and output the remainder. Optionally, a checksum may be appended to the remainder. The header field value may be scaled prior to being applied to the modulo X operator. The compressed header field which is output from the header compressor includes the remainder with or without the checksum appended. A header decompressor includes a field reconstructor which reconstructs the received compressed header field in response to the remainder value and range information. The range information represents a range of possible field values which can be reconstructed from the received remainder value.
