    • The present invention manages the information of storage apparatuses inside a single storage apparatus in an integrated fashion, under a heterogeneous storage environment in which a variety of storage apparatuses are distributed and deployed on a plurality of sub-networks. A wide-area network comprises a plurality of sub-networks, and a plurality of storage apparatuses are disposed on the respective sub-networks. A storage apparatus, which constitutes the connection source, issues query commands and collects storage information from respective external storage apparatuses based on conditions input from a user. When external resources matching the user-desired conditions are extracted, these external resources are displayed on a management terminal. When the user selects a desired external resource, this external resource is connected to a virtual intermediate volume and provided to a host.

An application on a host computer instructs data recovery control processing of a disk control apparatus to set a recovery opportunity. It is possible to register arbitrary plural points as a recoverable point by setting a recovery flag included in journal data. In the case in which data is recovered due to occurrence of a failure or the like, the application requests a list showing recovery opportunities which have already been set. The application designates a point to which data is recovered on the basis of the recovery opportunity list. The disk control apparatus recovers the data to the designated point on the basis of a backup disk and a journal disk.

    • Various types of resources of the disk array device are divided for respective users and communications resources used in remote copying are appropriately assigned to the users so that functional interference between the split units is prevented and stable remote copying is realized. SLPRs which are dedicated regions for the respective users are set inside the disk array device 10. Each SLPR is constituted by dividing various types of resources of ports, cache memories, logical units and the like, and cannot be accessed by an unauthorized host computer 1. Furthermore, a manager of one of the SLPRs likewise cannot refer to or alter the constructions of the other SLPRs. During remote copying, the amount of transfer within the unit time is detected for each of the SLPRs. If the amount of transfer within the unit time exceeds the maximum amount of transfer, a response to the host computer 1 from this SLPR is deliberately delayed, so that the inflow of data from the host computer 1 is restricted.
