    • A two-wire dedicated diagnostic data port in an integrated circuit provides visibility for all internal functions of the integrated circuit. An internal signal or signals are written to a serially connected memory in the dedicated diagnostic data port. The serially connected memory is connected to a two-wire output port of the dedicated diagnostic data port. A first wire in the two-wire output port is a data wire and a second wire in said the wire output port is a clock wire. Transfer of the stored information from the serially connected memory to the two-wire output port is initiated by writing to a control register in the dedicated diagnostic data port. In response to writing to the control register, a clock signal on a clock input line to the dedicated diagnostic data port is coupled to the second wire, and is used to serially shift the stored information from the serially connected memory to the data wire. The signals on the two-wires from the integrated circuit are processed by a shift/latch control circuit that is external to the integrated circuit. A predetermined time after the clock signal on the clock wire terminates, i.e., remains inactive for a predetermined period, the shift/latch control circuit generates a latch signal that can be used to capture the data transmitted over the data wire.

Alternately, the first and second output tanks may include a center-tapped transformer coupled to a third radiating element.

    • A remote operating system for remote-controlled operation of a device provides secure communication of encoded messages between a transmitter (100) and receiver (150) of the system, and provides automatic re-synchronization of the transmitter and receiver without revealing a loss of synchronization to the operator. A pseudo random binary number (PRBN) generator (105) in the transmitter (100) produces a sequence of identification numbers. Each time the transmitter (100) is activated, the identification number contained in the transmitted encoded message is selected as the next number in the sequence of identification numbers. A PRBN generator (170) in the receiver (150) produces a sequence of reference numbers that is identical to the sequence of identification numbers. The receiver responds to a command code portion of the transmitted encoded message for operation the device when there is identity between the reference number and the identification number. The receiver (150) responds to the transmitted message when there is not identity between the reference number and the identification number provided that a reference number identical to the identification number is generated within a search length in the sequence of reference numbers, thereby providing automatic re-synchronization of the transmitter and receiver. If a reference number matching the identification number is not found within the search length, the transmitter is controlled to produce a re-synchronization signal for re-synchronizing the receiver to the transmitter.

    • A method of suppressing resonances in electro-mechanical servo systems is disclosed. The servo systems are of the type where first signals indicative of actual position of the servo system are differentiated and second signals indicative of the acceleration of the system are integrated. The differentiated signals are applied to the integrator in order to provide accurate initialization thereof. In modes of operation where the acceleration of the system is substantially zero, the differentiators are not used, thus decoupling the mechanical system from the electronic control system and eliminating resonance from the servo loop. The duty cycle of the differentiators is varied in differing modes of operation of the servo system so as to provide maximum bandwidth and speed to the system coupled with minimum errors in positioning. The system is described in connection with the servoing of magnetic read/write heads radially with respect to rotating magnetic disk data storage media.
