    • A sender-specified courtesy notification scheme to delay notification by a receiving device of the receipt of a data message is disclosed. A sender may specify a notification parameter defining a delay and send the parameter in association with the data message to a recipient. The recipient's receiving device evaluates the parameter and notifies in response. Local notification data defined by the recipient may also be evaluated. Received data messages subject to delayed notification may be hidden by the receiving device or quietly displayed (e.g. as per other received messages) until the expiry of the delay. Notification parameters and data can be formulated as one or more rules which may take into account the current location of the receiving device. A notification delay may be ignored in certain situations depending on recent use of the receiving device.

    • There is disclosed a system and method for visually representing the probability of spam messages on a mobile communication device. In an embodiment, the method comprises: obtaining a probability that a message is spam; and for each of one or more messages in a message list, visually representing the probability that a message is spam such that any differences in the probabilities as between messages are discernable from the visual representation. In another embodiment, the method further comprises: determining the percentage of the message downloaded to the mobile communication device; and displaying for each of one or more messages appearing in the message list an object or icon visually representing at least one of the probability that the message is spam, or the percentage of the message downloaded to the mobile communication device.

    • Mobile device usage may be monitored and restricted by pushing enabling/disabling events from an administrator the device. The events impose a certain set of rules that can “lock” certain features provided by the device, according to permissions and pre-established policies, for a certain period of time. Such restricted periods may coincide with meetings or other events in which distractions should be kept to a minimum or be during regular, predetermined time periods. Preferably, the rules include conditional locks that allow a user to use a feature a reasonable number of times before the lock is activated to place the onus on the user for minimizing such distractions, while enabling the user to maintain access to such a vital communication tool. Cancel packets may also be used to not only control but to monitor the application of the rule sets and when certain conditions are breaches, which provides an employer with sufficient information to use in auditing device usage or in reprimanding users for misuse of a privilege such as the use of mobile data communications devices.

    • A fuel pellet surface defect inspection apparatus has an infeed conveyor, a discharge conveyor, and a slide and inspection assembly between the conveyors. The assembly includes a slide defining an inclined track having exit and entry ends adjacent the respective discharge and infeed conveyors. The entry end is at a higher elevation than the exit end. The assembly also includes an inspection station located along the track between its entry and exit ends. The station has lower and upper sound reflectors configured to define an annular inspection chamber through which a pellet moves as the pellet slides down the inclined track. The chamber completely encloses the cylindrical surface of the pellet as the pellet moves through the chamber. An ultrasonic inspection head is mounted at the station and transmits and receives sound energy to and from a pellet as it moves through the chamber such that the sound energy completely surrounds the moving pellet being inspected within the chamber. The inclined track has an upper portion extending to the inspection chamber and a lower portion extending from the inspection chamber and having a shallower slope than the upper portion to cause deceleration of a pellet as it moves from the upper portion to the lower portion. Deceleration reduces the velocity of the inspected pellet as it approaches the exit end of the track and thereby reduces the chance of impacts with the discharge conveyor that might otherwise produce chips and cracks in the pellets.

    • A radial neutron reflector for a water moderated nuclear reactor. The space surrounding the nuclear core is provided with a plurality of side-by-side stacked reflector roads having a square cross-sectional shape. Blocks of reflector material having axial grooves are fitted within a square enclosure. The assembly is subjected to high pressures and temperatures which collapse the enclosure onto the blocks eliminating the assembly clearance. The enclosure material flows into the grooves of the blocks leaving wrinkle-free surfaces over the flat remainder of the enclosure. Square shaped reflector rods result in high solid-to-void ratios in the radial reflector region of the reactor. The resulting grooves allow for coolant flow and cooling of the rods.
