    • An ultrasonic motor including a driving member and a driven member, the driving member comprising a plate- or rod-like elastic member, a flexural vibrator fixed to the elastic member and causing the elastic member to induce a standing wave type flexural vibration upon application of an AC voltage thereto, and a longitudinal vibrator provided on a node line of the flexural vibration at the surface of the elastic member, the longitudinal vibrator being pivoted about the node line by the flexural vibrator and adapted to expand and contract in an amplitude direction of the flexural vibration upon application of an AC voltage thereto, the driven member being brought into pressure contact with an end face of the longitudinal vibrator. The longitudinal vibrator is expanded or contracted in synchronism with the flexural vibration, whereby the driving member and the driven member are moved relatively to each other.

    • In an ultrasonic motor, an elliptical vibration is generated by combining a longitudinal primary resonance vibration resulting from an expansion and a contraction of a vibrator in a direction of a central axis and a torsional secondary resonance vibration or a torsional tertiary resonance vibration resulting from twisting around the central axis. A dimension ratio of a rectangle of the vibrator is chosen such that a resonance frequency of the longitudinal primary resonance vibration and a resonance frequency of the torsional secondary resonance vibration or the torsional tertiary resonance vibration match. The vibrator includes a plurality of regions in a surface orthogonal to the central axis, and deformations of the regions adjacent to each other along the direction of the central axis are mutually different. The vibrator expands and contracts in a direction orthogonal to a polarization direction thereof.

    • A vibration wave motor includes a housing, a rotor, a bearing member, a vibrator serving as an actuator and having a support shaft and a driving element, and a leaf spring having a pressing protrusion. The vibrator is slidably disposed in an opening of the housing along a rotation axis direction of the rotor, and a support shaft of the vibrator is rotatable. The vibrator is held while being urged by the leaf spring and being in contact with the rotor. The vibrator is excited to generate supersonic vibration so that the rotor is rotated. Since the vibrator is movably supported by the housing in the rotation axis direction and the vibrator is urged by the leaf spring and is in contact with a friction contact surface of the rotor, the vibrator is evenly in contact with the rotor in a direction perpendicular to the friction contact surface so as to provide superior driving conditions of the vibration wave motor.

    • A vibration wave motor includes a housing, a rotor, a bearing member, a bending-vibration driving transducer having a support shaft and two driving elements and serving as an actuator, and a leaf spring having a pressing protrusion. The transducer is slidable in an opening of the housing along a rotation axis direction of the rotor, and a support shaft of the transducer is rotatably supported and inserted. The transducer is held while being urged by the leaf spring and being in contact with the rotor. Since the transducer is urged by the pressing protrusion of the leaf spring, the leaf spring is in complete contact with the transducer without edge contact so that the two driving elements are evenly in contact with the rotor in a direction perpendicular to the frictional contact surface, thus providing driving conditions of superior conversion efficiency.
