A coexistence node receives information on network properties associated with secondary cognitive radio resource users. An upload message is generated and sent, the upload message including for a secondary user database at least information on the received network properties associated with secondary cognitive radio resource users. A location-dependent network map including at least information on network properties is generated. The network map is sent to assist one or more secondary cognitive radio resource users.

    • The invention relates to sharing a radio spectrum between a first radio system and a second radio system which co-exist so that the radio spectrum is shared at least locally. A radio access point of the first radio system is provided with information on the co-existing second radio system and the constraints it causes to user terminals operating in the service area of the radio access point. The radio access point may retrieve or obtain information about the other radio system by any appropriate, such from a centralized database. Based on the information the radio access point creates and broadcasts beacon or control information to user terminals operating in the service area of the radio access point, to thereby enable the user terminals to adjust their operation so that they can co-exist with the second radio system. Thus, there are two processes: information retrieval about another (second) system and signalling of the spectrum sharing information.

    • An approach is provided for cooperatively sharing spectrum. A threshold value associated with an acceptable level of interference to a first radio network is determined. A beacon message specifying the threshold value is generated for transmission from the first radio network to one or more nodes of a second radio network that is configured to exchange traffic for mobile services. The first radio network and the second radio network share spectral resources including adjacent bands for the respective radio networks, and the beacon message is used for controlling the level of interference to the first radio network caused by the one or more nodes of the second radio network.

    • A system for managing the simultaneous operation of a plurality of radio modems in a single wireless communication device (WCD). The multiradio control may be integrated into the WCD as a subsystem responsible for scheduling wireless communications by temporarily enabling or disabling the plurality of radio modems within the device. The multiradio control system may comprise a multiradio controller (MRC) and a plurality dedicated radio interfaces. The radio interfaces are dedicated to quickly conveying delay sensitive information to and from the radio modems. This information may be requested by the MRC, or provided by one or more of the plurality of radio modems, if a change occurs during operation.

    • Various embodiments are disclosed relating to traffic prioritization techniques for wireless networks. In an example embodiment, different priorities may be applied to uplink traffic and downlink traffic at one or more nodes or mesh points in a wireless network, such as within a wireless meshed network, for at least some traffic. In another example embodiment, a first set of QoS parameters may be used for uplink traffic while a second set of QoS parameters may be used for downlink traffic for one or more nodes within a wireless network, for at least some traffic. According to another example embodiment, local or intra-cell traffic may be prioritized differently than inter-cell traffic for a mesh point within a wireless meshed network, for at least some traffic. For example, local or intra-cell traffic may be prioritized over inter-cell traffic for a mesh point within a wireless meshed network.
