    • An apparatus for separating magnetic particles from a fluid, the apparatus comprising a tubular housing comprising an interior surface, an exterior surface, a first inlet port, a first outlet port, a second outlet port, and a channel; a tubular filter medium disposed within the tubular housing and comprising an inner surface and an outer surface, the filter medium partitioning the channel into a first passageway between the first inlet port of the tubular housing and the second outlet port of the tubular housing, and a second passageway in communication with the first outlet port of the tubular housing; and a wire coil wound around the exterior surface of the tubular housing, the wire coil comprising a first lead and a second lead. In operation, the wire coil is connected to a direct current power supply to effect enhanced separation of magnetic particles from a flowing fluid stream.

    • A filter device has a filter tank into which a contaminated fluid is introduced, a magnetic ball filter medium using a large number of metal balls, magnets, and lift rods. The magnetic ball filter medium is formed of an aggregate of a large number of spherical metal balls of a magnetic material and is held in a filter medium storage portion in a manner such that the metal balls are movable relatively to one another. The magnets are movable between a first position and a second position. When in the first position, the magnets apply a magnetic field to the metal balls, thereby causing the metal balls magnetically to attract one another and so that the metal balls are fixed to one another. When in the second position, the magnetic attraction between the metal balls is canceled so that the metal balls are movable.

    • A continuous magnetic separator and process for separating a slurry comprising magnetic particles into a clarified stream and a thickened stream. The separator has a container with a slurry inlet, an overflow outlet for the discharge of the clarified slurry stream, and an underflow outlet for the discharge of a thickened slurry stream. Magnetic particles in the slurry are attracted to, and slide down, magnetic rods within the container. The slurry is thus separated into magnetic concentrate and clarified slurry. Flow control means can be used to control the ratio of the rate of magnetic concentrate to the rate of clarified slurry. Feed control means can be used to control the rate of slurry feed to the slurry inlet.

    • An apparatus separates liquid, gas and solid components of a mixture in a fluid system. An inlet for receiving the mixture opens into a separation chamber tangentially with a cylindrical side wall and a gas outlet has an opening in a first end wall adjacent the inlet to allow gas to exit the separator. A fluid outlet is located in an opposing second end wall. A debris passage extends through the cylindrical side wall and oriented so that the radial velocity of the particles within the separation chamber directs the particles through the debris passage. The debris passage leads to a particle collection chamber in which the particles accumulate. Unlike prior separators that relied on the tangential velocity of the particles, the present apparatus utilizes the greater radial velocity to drive the particles from the separation chamber into the particle collection chamber.

    • A bailer is configured to remove particulate solids from fluid passing through the bailer. The bailer preferably includes a housing that includes an intake and an outlet to permit the flow if well fluids through the housing. The bailer also includes a magnetic plate that includes at least one aperture that provides a path for the fluid flow. The bailer optionally includes one or more elongate magnetic bars that extend along the longitudinal axis of the bailer housing. The bailer can be used in conjunction with other components in a downhole pumping system, a surface pumping system or a transport system.
