    • An article of manufacture is provided including a computer usable medium having a computer readable program code device embodied therein for graphically representing and managing a telecommunications cable system. Managing includes tracking all hardware components contained in the telecommunications cable system and the capacity of each hardware component. Preferably, the cable system includes a PBX switch and master database, and at least one adjunct system and database. The computer readable program code device interacts with the master database, which contains a copy of information contained in each PBX, adjunct system and each adjunct system and respective database, and provides a user with an ability to track all telecommunications system cabling and hardware components by unique identification number stored in a cable manager database by type. The cable manager database may be accessed by type such that connections of all communication cables, termination hardware components and cross-connects may be accessed to realize available circuit pathways, document existing circuits and adding new circuits, including selecting a shortest or most efficient path between jack and switch for the new circuit. The cable manager database identifies available system components for existing or new circuits, and generates reports which disclose which cables and components which make up the particular existing or new circuit are currently in use.

    • A system for allowing a plurality of administrators to control switching system resources in a telephone system. A switching system is communicatively connected to a server computer. The server computer maintains databases that store the resources that a plurality administrators are allowed to access and the functions that each administrator is allowed to perform. When the server computer receives a request from an administrator for an administrative function to be performed by the switching system, the software executed by the server computer accesses the database and determines if the administrator is allowed to perform the requested function and if the resources are available to administrator. If the administrator has made a valid request the server computer generates a command and transmits the command to the switching system that performs the function requested in the command. The server computer may also maintain a database that maintains a pool of unused resources. These resources may then be allocated to administrators upon a demand basis. Any unfulfilled request can then be logged and used to allocate resources in the future or to add additional resources to the system.

    • A telecommunications system and method for managing Local Number Portability (LNP) querying for calls routed to Local Exchange Carriers by providing a list of carriers in the Service Switching Point (SSP) (local service provider) for whom LNP querying is to be performed by the SSP. For example, calls destined to carriers on the list will be queried by the originating SSP, or other intermediate SSP, and calls destined for carriers not on the list will not be queried by the originating SSP, but instead will be directly routed to the carrier for LNP querying. Advantageously, the local service providers (SSPs) can perform LNP queries for calls destined to certain carriers and charge them for the queries. This will enable small local exchange carriers to provide competitive service in the network by purchasing the LNP querying facility from the SSPs. Furthermore, LNP querying will now be able to be provided for every call routed through an Local Exchange Carrier (LEC), regardless of whether the LEC has LNP querying capability.

    • The invention relates to a method for setting up telephone calls between connections of a public telephone network and such connections of the public telephone network as are connected under the control of the method, such as the connections of a distributed call center or a virtual PBX.
