A connection pipe (11) connects the front volume (10) of the sound generator (1) to an exhaust gas-carrying exhaust gas line (12) fluidically and acoustically. To reduce the risk of damage to the membrane (6), for example, in case the housing (4) becomes flooded, a pressure equalization line (15) is connected by a proximal end (16) to the housing (4) on the outside and is connected fluidically with the rear volume (9) through an opening (18) in the housing. A distal end (17) of the pressure equalization line (15) is at a spaced location from the housing (4).
