摘要： An electrical connector includes an insulating housing defining two openings, a circuit board received in the insulating housing and formed with two sets of contacts, a cover covering the insulating housing and enclosing the circuit board except the sets of contacts, and a pair of grounding shells inserted into the openings respectively. Each of the grounding shells defines an inserting opening exposed through the opening of the insulating housing and a blocking opening received in the insulating housing. One of the grounding shells connects to a grounding unit of a cord telephone base, and the other grounding shell connects to a grounding unit of a portable wireless telephone to prevent the cord telephone base and the portable wireless telephone from electrostatic influence.

The upper shield shell 25 includes an extension wall 30 which detects the state where the terminal holder 6 is being inserted into the inner housing by overlapping with at least a part of a surface 6a of the terminal holder 6 on the rear end side in an insertion direction toward the inner housing 5 in the state where the upper shield shell is attached to the inner housing 5 and by coming into contact with the terminal holder 6 so as to regulate the upper shield shell 25 from being attached to the inner housing 5 in the state where the terminal holder 6 is being inserted into the inner housing 5.

The vertical portion includes an opening adapted to receive the bare end of a wire for clamping and the horizontal portion includes an engagement element adapted to engage an actuating element, such as a screw, for actuating the conducting body in the vertical direction to clamp the wire against a horizontal element. The horizontal portion can include a free end that is folded downward, extending in a vertical direction. The folded free end can interfere with the actuating element causing the actuating element to lock.

The shell has a lower plate facing the circuit board when the connector is mounted on the circuit board. The lower plate includes a front edge, an inner back edge located away from the front edge by a predetermined distance, inner side edges connecting the inner back edge to the front edge, and a ground portion projecting frontward from the inner back edge. The inner back edge and the inner side edges define a recessed area recessed rearward from the front edge by a predetermined distance. The ground portion is connectable to the circuit board.
