摘要： There is disclosed a disc type magnetic recording and playing system wherein a recording arm tracks over concentric circular tracks in a flexible magnetic disc. There is also disclosed apparatus for swinging the recording arm into position with the record/playback transducer centered within a given track, and a stepping motor for stepping the transducer from track to track. A safety lifting device is provided for prevention of excessive wear of any one track. The safety lifting device is under the control of a solenoid which in turn is energized through a timer. When any of several operating controls are activated the timer is set and the solenoid is energized. After a predetermined period of time, the timer deenergizes the solenoid, and the arm is raised automatically. Raising of the arm is accomplished by a spring which works against the solenoid so that there is always a positive arm lifting moment which in the absence of an energizing current to the solenoid, raises the arm. Thus ''''fail safe'''' operation is provided.

摘要： A high-density information record comprises a stamped thermoplastic (e.g., vinyl) disc having a constant-width spiral surface groove, the center-to-center spacing of successive closely spaced convolutions of the groove spiral being substantially constant and independent of the recorded information. The recorded information appears as an information track constituting variations in the geometry of the groove bottom along its length. Playback apparatus employs a stylus having a tip conformed to be received in the disc groove in engagement with smoothly curved side walls of groove. As a discsupporting turntable rotates, the stylus rides in the groove passing over successive dimension-varying information track elements in the groove bottom, which serve to vary the capacitance presented between a conductive electrode incorporated in the stylus tip and a reference conductor (e.g., a conductive surface of the disc-supporting turntable). The capacitance variations occurring during playback are translated into electrical signal variations by appropriate circuitry. Per illustrative embodiment, inexpensively replicated video disc of appreciable playing time is subject to playback by abovedescribed techniques.

摘要： In a light electric tone pick-up, a tone arm, which comprises an immovable tone arm holding member which holds the tone arm at one end pivotally about a vertical and a horizontal axis. A light beam control is disposed at the other end of the tone arm and is connected with a sensing needle for a tone modulated groove. A light source is immovably disposed adjacent to the vertical tonearm pivot axis. A first and a second light guide is secured in the tone arm, and each is directed with the cross-sectional face of one of its ends towards the light-beam control member and terminates with the cross-sectional face of the other of its ends close to the horizontal and vertical tone arm pivot axis in a radial plane, disposed spaced apart from each other, to the vertical tone arm pivot axis. Two lightelectric transmitters are immovably disposed adjacent the vertical tone-arm pivot axis and at a close distance opposite the cross-sectional faces of the light guides. A third light guide is secured in the tone arm and is directed with one of its ends towards the light-beam control member and terminates with the cross-sectional face of the other of its ends close to the horizontal and vertical tone arm pivot axis in a radial plane to the vertical tone arm swinging axis. Also, a fourth light guide is directed with one of its ends towards said light source and terminates with the other of its ends at a slight distance opposite the cross-sectional face of the fourth light guide.
