    • A one-piece closure cap formed of a plastics material and being adapted to close an opening in a receptacle or container and to be releasably locked in the closed position through a bayonet-type connection. The cap has a cylindrical body section which fits within the opening and an enlarged head section at one end of the body section. Locking lugs formed integral with the body section extend radially outwards therefrom and each is connected to the body section through a resilient strap-like portion partially separated from the body section by two slots extending circumferentially of the body section and being spaced apart in the axial direction of that section. Each lug is formed integral with the respective strap-like portion so as to be located between the ends thereof and is movable relative to the body section in the axial direction of that section. That movement occurs through flexing of the strap-like portion and is limited by engagement between the longitudinal edges of the strap-like portion and the opposed edges of the respective slot.

    • A pail consists of an open-top body and a lid applicable to the open-top to close it and be reliably secured thereon. The open-top is defined by an annular seating, and a circumferential array of cantilever locking lugs on the body adjacent but spaced from the seating, project radially beyond the seating. The lid has a depending skirt which encircles the seating, when applied, and extends downwardly below said lugs. A series of circumferentially extending locking apertures, equal in number and spacing to the lugs, are formed in the skirt, each having one enlarged end to freely admit one of the lugs and its other end formed as a stricture to take hold of an admitted lug upon fractional rotation of the lid following application to the open-top. A resilient sealing ring is housed in a groove in the lid so that when the lid is applied to the open-top, the ring is compressed between the lid and the body seating.

    • A safety container and closure assembly including an integrally-molded, one-piece plastic cap having a sealing portion which provides an "oil-can" effect during axial and rotative motion of the cap relative to the container. The sealing portion comprises a relatively thin, radially outwardly curved wall which is integrally joined to a relatively stiff annular base portion from which a peripheral skirt portion axially projects for receiving the mouth of the container. Integrally formed with the sealing portion is a relatively thin, annular biasing portion which, in turn, is integrally formed with a relatively stiff, inner, disc-like base portion. The biasing portion biases the sealing portion to axially spaced positions such that when the cap is placed on the container, the biasing portion biases the cap in a fixed axial sealing position relative to the container and simultaneously applies pressure to the sealing portion. Preferably, a rib comprising an O-ring seal projects inwardly on the inner surface of the mouth portion of a container and simultaneously engages the sealing portion during the axial and rotative motion of the cap relative to the container.

    • The combination of a multi-functional closure and container including an open neck portion. The closure includes a top wall, a resilient member carried by the top wall and a depending skirt portion for receiving the open neck portion of the container. Corresponding locking lugs are disposed about the inner wall of the cylindrical skirt portion of the closure and the outer wall of the neck portion of the container adapted to permit the closure to operate in a safety lock mode, a twist-on mode and a snap-on mode.Each of the locking lugs of the container comprise a bayonet lug including an elongated axially extending member and a leading end member extending normal to the elongated portion. An enlarged area is provided on the leading end member and spaced from the elongated axially extending member to define an indent to provide the safety lock feature. In one embodiment the bayonet lug is provided with a trailing end member for cooperation with a corresponding lug on the closure providing the snap-on and twist-on mode of operation. In another embodiment, the leading end member is extended beyond the enlarged area of the bayonet lug to provide the snap-on and twist-on mode of operation in cooperation with a corresponding lug of the closure.

    • A plastic closure having inner pressure sealing skirt and outer finish engaging skirt has a plurality of fingers evenly spaced around the inner side of the outer skirt. The corresponding finish has a like plurality of indentations evenly spaced around its circumference for engagement by the fingers when the cap is applied. The indentations may be in the form of recesses spaced from the bottle mouth, having a horizontal lip at the top edge, and having a side wall smoothly merging with the outer surface of the finish at the side of the recess. Alternatively, the recess may be a bayonet groove spiraling downwardly on the finish and then bending into a horizontal or upwardly spiraling groove for locking the fingers in place against pressure in the bottle. Another embodiment would employ a groove spiraling downwardly on the finish at a first depth, and then terminating in a groove portion of a second greater depth. The latter finish cooperates with a closure finger structure having a base of similar thickness to the first depth of the groove, and a boss on the base is adapted to enter the deeper groove portion and accordingly is of correspondingly greater thickness. The inner skirt of the closure forms an improved seal when its outer face is cylindrical or frusto-conical in an outward and downward flare, and the finish has a frusto-conical, downwardly converging camming surface immediately within the bottle mouth.

    • A meter box and a uniquely designed cover molded out of a substantially rigid plastic material is disclosed. The meter box comprises an open upper top with an upwardly extending rim member. On the inside surface of the meter box are means for supporting a cover forming a ledge member. The cover is arranged and configured to rest on the ledge confronting the rim of the box so as to substantially close the open top of the box. Disposed on the exterior of the meter box are a plurality of anchor tabs. A horizontal member is disposed between two anchor tabs adjacent the top of the meter box which enables the box to be secured in concrete and the like.The cover may be a substantially round member or may comprise first and second sections and means for rotatably joining the first and second sections together. The first section having outwardly extending protrusions which engage slots on the meter box so as to render the first section substantially immovable therein. The second section having an opening which enables the user to lift the second section off the top of the meter box and move it about the rotation means whereby the meter box is selectively opened and closed. The meter box and cover of the present invention have particular utility because of the ease of construction, and beneficial cost versus strength ratios.

    • A disposable liner for the paint container of a conventional spray gun having a liner body formed from a pliable sheet material sized and shaped to closely fit the interior of the paint container and an annular collar formed from a more rigid plastic material secured near the open end of the liner body. The annular collar includes a cylindrical sidewall sized to snugly fit within the neck portion of the paint receptacle. A throw-away lid is also provided for closing the disposable liner and it is adapted to snugly fit a draw tube of the paint spray gun until it is forceably removed. The stiff plastic collar mates with the lid and allows repeated opening of the paint receptacle without ripping or tearing of the liner body in order that it might be refilled with paint as needed. In an alternative embodiment, a pair of locking means are provided on either side of both the collar and the lid of the liner. The mating parts of each locking means are adapted to be unengaged when the yoke of the paint spray gun is both in its closed position against the lugs at the top of the paint receptacle and in its released position with the yoke rotated just free of the lugs. However, if the yoke is aligned over the paint receptacle in a third position, such as on the side of the lugs opposite the released position, the parts of the locking means can be mated so that the paint covered disposable liner can withdraw from the paint receptacle.
