    • Disclosed herein are representative embodiments of methods, apparatus, and systems for distributing a resource (such as electricity) using a resource allocation system. In one exemplary embodiment, a plurality of requests for electricity are received from a plurality of end-use consumers. The requests indicate a requested quantity of electricity and a consumer-requested index value indicative of a maximum price a respective end-use consumer will pay for the requested quantity of electricity. A plurality of offers for supplying electricity are received from a plurality of resource suppliers. The offers indicate an offered quantity of electricity and a supplier-requested index value indicative of a minimum price for which a respective supplier will produce the offered quantity of electricity. A dispatched index value is computed at which electricity is to be supplied based at least in part on the consumer-requested index values and the supplier-requested index values.

    • Provided is a day-ahead load reduction system based on a customer baseline load for inducing a user to efficiently manage energy consumption by applying an incentive (user compensation according to load reduction) to achieve load reduction and load decentralization. The day-ahead load reduction system based on a customer baseline load operates in connection with a provider terminal and a user terminal through a network to induce a reduction in the load of a user and includes an AMI/AMR translator collecting load profile data of the user in real time, converting the load profile data and storing the load profile data in a meter data warehouse; a meter data management system monitoring and analyzing the load profile data stored in the meter data warehouse in real time; a demand response operation system managing the demand of the user by using the load profile data and performing overall management, analysis and verification of a day-ahead load reduction event; a customer energy management system operating in connection with the demand response operation system and providing information on the load to the user through the user terminal in real time to allow the user to control the load; and an account system operating in connection with the demand response operation system and the customer energy management system, calculating an incentive for the day-ahead load reduction event and notifying a provider and the user of the incentive through the provider terminal and the user terminal.

    • A method of segmenting a power distribution network which comprises a plurality of AC power generating stations synchronously interconnected by AC power transmission paths is disclosed. The stations operate within associated market sectors and are subject to associated market rules. The method includes identifying all transmission paths which extend between differing ones of the sectors and, in each of said transmission paths so identified, segmenting the path by inserting a controllable DC link at a selected location in the path. Each of the sectors is then operated asynchronously. Power flow and counter-flow between the sectors is controlled by controlling the DC links. As well there is disclosed a power transmission network which comprises a plurality of AC power generating stations operable within associated market sectors subject to associated market rules; power transmission paths interconnecting the stations, at least some of the paths extending between differing ones of the sectors; and wherein each of the paths which extend between differing ones of the sectors includes a controllable DC link in the path for desynchronizing the differing sectors; and, control means operatively connectable to each of the DC links for controlling power flow between the differing sectors.

    • A business method to expand upon prior art methods of billing a utility customer's energy consumption from local power generation energy sources such as wind and solar systems. The invention discerns energy generated locally and energy consumed from a wide area energy source, utility or COOP. The invention allows power generated locally by leased, owned, or rented power generation equipment at the utility customer's location to be measured and billed to the customer at a separate rate than that charged by the utility to the customer. A well-engineered system will locally generate enough power to offset the utility's charges, lower the power customer's power costs and will provide revenue to the local power generation equipment provider by a power billing presented to the utility customer. The invention may utilize any power generation method such as electric, gas, oil, biomass, and or thermal.
