    • The invention provides a telephone network connector (10, FIG. 8) with a rear portion (47) that holds a cartridge (56) which enables connections directly to ground and through a circuit component to ground. The cartridge lies within an electrically grounded metal shell (32), that, in turn, lies within a molded dielectric container (48). The cartridge has a grounded contact element (74, FIG. 2) which has threaded part (78) extending through a threaded hole (80) in the grounded shell. The cartridge also has a nongrounded contact element (76) which projects through a bushing part (92) of the dielectric container, which isolates the nongrounded contact from the walls of a hole (91) in the metal shell. The molded dielectric container forms a front connect tube (51, FIG. 8) and a pair of side tubes (52, 53).

    • A rotatable connector installed in a telephone transmitter and used for connecting a coiled conductor and the transmitter to effectively prevent the coiled conductor from twisting. The connector includes a housing, four conductors for connecting to a microphone and a receiver in the transmitter, four annular guide pieces which can be mounted on a rotation seat and held in the housing and composed of four semicircular piercing guide pieces and four semi-circular guide pieces, a jack for the coiled conductor held in the housing and having several electrically conducting spring strips thereon. The jack can be freely rotated relative to the housing while keeping the spring strips in electric contact with the corresponding annular guide pieces.

    • An anti-overstress system is provided in an electrical connector which includes a dielectric housing having a contact-receiving cavity with a slot communicating the cavity with a mating surface on the outside of the housing. A contact is received in the cavity and includes a cantilevered spring contact arm disposed in the slot. The arm has a contacting portion projecting beyond the mating surface of the housing for engagement with a complementary contact of the mating connector. The spring contact arm flexes in the slot upon engagement of the contacting portion by the complementary contact. The anti-overstress system is provided between the contact and the housing and includes a pair of wings projecting from opposite sides of the spring contact arm engageable with a pair of ledges formed in opposite sides of the slot after a given amount of flexing of the spring contact arm.

    • A communications card capable of being mounted in electrical communications with a computer has formed therethrough an aperture so sized and shaped as to be capable of receiving a physical/electrical media connector. The media connector has a biased retention clip, a contact pin block, and contact pins. The retention clip has several standardized characteristics including a broad fixed end protruding from an outer surface of the contact pin block. The broad fixed end tapers abruptly at a transition notch down to a narrow free end, capable of being manipulated by a user to remove the physical/electrical media connector from the aperture in the communications card. In use, a media connector is inserted directly into the aperture in the communications card, the aperture being in contact with a plurality of contact wires fixed within the communications card. The communications card is divided into a retractable access portion of the communications card which can be directly accessed by manipulating an actuating mechanism releasing a retention means thereby allowing a spring to push the retractable access portion of the card outside of the computer housing. The retractable access portion of the communications card may be reinserted back into the computer housing to be carried internally when not in use.
