    • A bicycle gear shift indicating device is mounted on a bicycle handlebar which is in turn provided with an operating handle and a control cable. The device comprises a main body, a cable reel, an actuation set, a link member, and a gear shift levels indicator. The main body is provided with a slide portion and a window. The cable reel is rotatably mounted in the main body such that the cable reel is actuated by the operating handle, and that the cable reel is connected with the control cable. The cable reel is provided with an inclined surface. The actuation set has a slide portion, a link portion, an action member, and a spring for urging the action member to press against the inclined surface of the cable reel. The link member is actuated by the actuation set. The gear shift levels indicator is fastened with the link member and provided with a plurality of Arabic numerals designating the gear shift levels and corresponding in location to the window of the main body. As the operating handle is turned, the cable reel is actuated to by the control cable, thereby causing actuation set to displace to actuate the link member in such a manner that a gear shift numeral is seen through the window of the main body.

    • A cable adjustment device changes the effective length or tension of a control cable which extends between an actuating mechanism and a device to be operated thereby. In the case of a bicycle, the cable adjustment device is coupled to a bicycle actuating mechanism such as a brake lever or a shifter to control a brake or a derailleur. The actuating mechanism has a base or stationary member and a movable member coupled to the base member for moving the control cable. In the preferred embodiment, the cable adjustment device is coupled to the base member. Specifically, a cable guide portion with an internal threaded bore is integrally formed with the base member. This bore threadedly receives an adjusting member which engages the outer casing of the control cable. A torsion spring is coupled between the adjusting member and the cable guide portion to overridably restrict rotational movement therebetween. Specifically, the adjusting member has one or more longitudinally extending channels which are selectively engaged by a nose portion of the torsion spring to control the rotational movement of the adjusting member.

    • A bicycle shifter operating device for operating a shifting mechanism via a transmission element includes a control body for mounting to a bicycle in close proximity to a handlebar for controlling a pulling and releasing of the transmission element. A first lever is mounted to the control body for movement which causes the control body to effect pulling of the transmission element, and a second lever is mounted to the control body for movement which causes the control body to effect releasing of the transmission element. One lever may be pivotally coupled to the control body, and the other lever may be coupled for linear movement relative to the control body. The lever structured for linear movement may be coupled to a transmission mechanism for operating the control body in such a way that very little linear movement is needed to operate the control body. The transmission mechanism may include a plurality of ratchet teeth disposed in a common plane, where the path of movement of the linear operating body is parallel to the plane of the ratchet teeth. With such a structure, the finger contacting part associated with the linearly moving lever may be placed in front of the handlebar (by curving the body of the lever, if necessary) so that the finger contacting part moves toward the handlebar in operation without striking the handlebar. As a result, both levers may be operated by the cyclist's thumb without movement of any other fingers or the palm from the handlebar.

    • A dual derailleur bicycle gearshift comprises a first cable pull member pivotally secured to a support for rotation about a first axis and a second cable pull member pivotally secured to the first cable pull member for rotation about a second axis perpendicular to the first axis, wherein the second cable pull member defines a single actuator that is centered on both axes for pivotal movability within a first arc located within a first plane that extends axially of and contains the first axis to rotate the second cable pull member about the second axis and pivotal movability within a second arc located within a second plane that extends axially of and contains the second axis to rotate the first cable pull member about the first axis. In a handlebar mounted embodiment the first cable pull member rotates about a longitudinal axis of the bicycle's handlebar and the actuator is a yoke centered on both axes and having one end defining the second cable pull member. In a handlebar stem mounted embodiment the actuator is a lever and the first cable pull member is notched for centering the lever on both axes. In each embodiment a first bracket member stationary with the support provides anchorage for a casing associated with a cable pulled by the first cable pull member, and a second bracket member rotatable with the first cable pull member provides anchorage for a casing associated with a cable pulled by the second cable pull member.
