    • A multipass printer and printing method is described for printing an image on a sheet printing medium using a page wide printing head. A transporting device provides relative movement between the sheet printing media and a first print head. A series of sheet printing media are presented to the first print head for printing in sequence. The first print head prints a first sub-image of at least one set of monochromatic mutually interstitially printed sub-images of a first image onto a first sheet of printing medium of the series in one pass. A sub-image of an image is printed in succession on each remaining one of the series of sheet printing media followed by printing a further sub-image of the at least one set of monochromatic mutually interstitially printed sub-images of the first image onto the first sheet printing medium.

    • An image formation apparatus which records an image on a recording medium has a recording element array head on which plural recording chips are disposed, and in the recording chip plural recording elements are arrayed. A main scan unit is for scanning the recording elements, and a sub-scan unit, for effecting relative motion between the recording medium and the recording chips in a sub-scanning direction. The main scan unit scans the recording elements n (n≧2) times on the basis of image data corresponding to one scan. The direction along which the recording elements are disposed, is deviated from the direction perpendicular to the sub-scanning direction, by a predetermined angle.

    • A method and apparatus for positioning a fluid ejection device such as an inkjet pen, or a plurality of aligned fluid ejection devices, on a supporting frame known as a printbar for page wide array printing involves provision of datum surfaces on each ejection device extending in three orthogonally related planes. The datum surfaces on the fluid ejection devices mate with positioning surfaces on the printbar to hold each fluid ejection device in correct position. A datum surface on a laterally outwardly extending key on each device is engaged by a biasing spring mounted on the printbar to position the device lengthwise of the printbar and also to prevent incorrect installation of the device.
