    • An outboard motor has a construction in which the area of an exhaust passage can be secured easily and exhaust noise is less likely to escape into the air, allowing the exhaust noise to be lowered. The outboard motor includes a lower case, a propeller shaft rotatably supported in the lower case, a propeller fixed to the propeller shaft, an engine, and a power transmission mechanism through which a driving force from the engine is transmitted to the propeller shaft to rotate the propeller. An exhaust case is provided in the lower case. The exhaust case includes an upper exhaust passage above the propeller shaft, the upper exhaust passage directing therethrough an exhaust gas from the engine, an exhaust outlet which is open in a rearward direction of the propeller shaft, and a communication exhaust passage arranged to communicate the upper exhaust passage with the exhaust outlet.

    • A marine propulsion system includes an outboard motor including an engine, a propeller, a shift position switching mechanism, an oil pump, valves, and an ECU. The shift position switching mechanism includes hydraulic clutches arranged to change the connection state between the engine and the propeller. The shift position switching mechanism is switchable among forward, reverse, and neutral. A first valve opens and closes the communication between the oil pump and a first hydraulic clutch. A second valve opens and closes the communication between the oil pump and a second hydraulic clutch. A third valve opens and closes the communication between the oil pump and each of third and fourth valves.

    • An image forming apparatus is disclosed. The image forming apparatus executes operations of idle ink ejection in which ink droplets not contributing to forming an image on a recording medium are ejected. When the operations of the idle ink ejection are executed before staring to print an image on a recording medium, the ink droplets are ejected into a cap member; in a case where the operations of the idle ink ejection are executed when a first predetermined period has passed after the last ejection of the ink droplets from the recording head, the ink droplets are ejected into an idle ink droplet receiving section; and in a case where the operations of the idle ink ejection are executed when a second predetermined period longer than the first predetermined period has passed as one of cleaning operations of the recording head, the ink droplets are ejected into the cap member.

    • An outboard motor has a top cowl and a bottom cowl. A elongate thickened portion protrudes inwardly from an inner surface of the top cowl into an engine compartment. A bottom opening edge of the top cowl mates with the bottom cowl. The elongate thickened portion extends along the length of top cowl from the forward end of the opening edge to a rearward end of the opening edge. A mold for forming the top cowl has an entrance sprue that is located in a position corresponding to the position of one end of an opening edge of the top cowl. An exit sprue of the mold is located in a position corresponding to the position of an opposing end of the opening edge of the top cowl. The mold defines a top cavity and side cavities that are used to mold the top cowl.
