摘要： This invention is directed to a method and apparatus of delaying the reaction between a first reactive gas and a second reactive gas as the first reactive gas flows into the second reactive gas. The method comprises the steps of surrounding the first reactive gas with a non-reactive gas to form an insulated first reactive gas; and flowing the insulated first reactive gas into the second reactive gas. A sweep gas is used to impart momentum to the insulated first reactive gas. The apparatus comprises three coaxial tubular members which are used to introduce the first reaction gas, the non-reactive gas, and the sweep gas. The apparatus may be installed in a semiconductor device fabrication process either just upstream of the house exhaust line or upstream of an ODC or air pollution abatement device.

摘要： This invention provides mixed conducting metal oxides particularly useful for the manufacture of catalytic membranes for gas-phase oxygen separation processes. The materials of this invention have the general formula:A.sub.x A'.sub.x A".sub.2-(x+x') B.sub.y B'.sub.y B".sub.2-(y+y') O.sub.5+z ;wherex and x' are greater than 0;y and y' are greater than 0;x+x' is less than or equal to 2;y+y' is less than or equal to 2;z is a number that makes the metal oxide charge neutral;A is an element selected from the f block lanthanide elements; A' is an element selected from Be, Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba and Ra;A" is an element selected from the f block lanthanides or Be, Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba and Ra; B is an element selected from the group consisting of Al, Ga, In or mixtures thereof; andB' and B" are different elements and are independently selected from the group of elements Mg or the d-block transition elements.The invention also provides methods for oxygen separation and oxygen enrichment of oxygen deficient gases which employ mixed conducting metal oxides of the above formula. 摘要： In a method of and apparatus for manufacturing methanol from methane a catalytic area is formed on the exterior of a hollow sintered stainless steel tube. Methane is maintained within the sintered stainless steel tube at predetermined pressure, and water continuously flowing across the exterior surface thereof strips the methane forming sub-micron sized methane bubbles. Light energy is directed onto the catalytic surface to form hydroxyl radicals from the flowing water. The hydroxyl radicals cleave the carbon-hydrogen bonds of the methane to form methyl ions which combined with the hydroxyl ions to form methanol.

摘要： A system for steam reformation of a hydrocarbon includes a combined oxidizer/burner unit connected downstream of a reformer and in thermal contact therewith. The combined unit functions during reformation reaction operation of the reformer as a CO oxidizer and simultaneously as a catalytic burner. During reformation reaction operation, a gas containing oxygen is added to the combined oxidizer/burner unit that has an oxygen component that is greater than the oxygen component required for CO oxidation alone. The system may be used, for example, in fuel-cell-operated motor vehicles to obtain hydrogen from methanol carried in liquid form that is required for the fuel cells.

摘要： A burner apparatus for reducing carbon production, comprises a burner having a combustion chamber and a heat exchanger located within the combustion chamber. The heat exchanger has an inlet end where a mixture comprising air and fuel enters, a heat transfer section, and an outlet end from which a process mixture of air and fuel discharges into the combustion chamber and is ignited to produce a product mixture. The inlet end and outlet end are located such that the general flow direction of the air and fuel within at least a portion of the heat transfer section is substantially parallel with flow direction of the product mixture in the combustion chamber. The heat transfer section is located within the combustion chamber so as to receive thermal input from the combusted product mixture therein to heat the process mixture to a temperature sufficiently high to substantially reduce the production of solid carbon therein. The invention is also for a method for reducing carbon production.

The grooves are formed into channels by being contacted with the surface of an opposed plate. The ribs (504) may engage the end surfaces of ribs on an adjacent plate or may be interleaved with the ribs (504) of an opposed plate to form smaller channels. The plates (502) are adhered to each other by firing a stack of plates (502) in the green state or by adhering cured plates (502) by means of an inorganic adhesive such as sodium silicate. Pressure drop and cracking may be reduced, mass transfer and heat efficiencies increased by enlarging the inlets (542) to the channels and by providing perforations through the plates between the ribs (504). Elements may be preassembled into larger units before placement in a column by wrapping metal bands around an assembly of elements.
