摘要： A method for brachytherapy in a lumpectomy cavity of a breast including, positioning a distal end of a brachytherapy device within the cavity, expanding an expandable surface portion located between proximal and distal ends of the device within the cavity, the source lumen tubes defining a curved configuration within the cavity; and positioning a source of radiation sequentially within one or more source lumens of the source lumen tubes according to a brachytherapy treatment plan. The device includes an inner tube, and a plurality of source lumen tubes located around the inner tube and including distal ends secured together with the inner tube at the distal end disposed within the body cavity, the source lumen tubes comprising proximal portions sufficiently long to extend outside the breast.

摘要： A brachytherapy device including an elongate member comprising a proximal portion and a distal portion. The device also includes a movable surface portion surrounding at least the distal portion of the elongate member and a plurality of source lumen tubes defining respective source lumens, the source lumen tubes being located around the elongate member, distal ends of the source lumen tubes coupled to the distal portion of the elongate member, the source lumen tubes extending a sufficient distance in a proximal direction such that the source lumen tubes extend outside a body when distal portions of the source lumen tubes are positioned in a body cavity for brachytherapy. The device also has structure coupled to the distal ends of the source lumen tubes for positioning the distal portions of the source lumen tubes at different distances from the elongate member for brachytherapy by exerting a force in a proximal direction on the distal ends of the source lumen tubes, the structure including an actuator for actuating the structure, at least a portion of the actuator being located outside the body when the distal portions of the source lumen tubes are positioned in a body cavity for brachytherapy. The device also includes a ring, tube or manifold securing a portion of the source lumen tubes proximal to the distal portion around the elongate member and a source of radiation suitable for insertion into the source lumens.

摘要： While performing prostate brachytherapy in which radioactive seeds are implanted into the prostate, both X-ray and transrectal ultrasound (TRUS) data are collected. The X-ray data indicate all of the implanted seeds, but not their relative position within the prostate. The TRUS data correspond to both axial and longitudinal ultrasound images. A subset of the implanted seeds can be automatically (or manually) detected in the TRUS data (using longitudinal ultrasound images), and the prostate is indicated in the TRUS data (using axial ultrasound images). Registration is performed between the X-ray and TRUS data, thereby identifying the disposition of all implanted seeds within the prostate, enabling dosimetry to be intraoperatively determined. A medical practitioner can thus determine whether and where to implant additional seeds to achieve a desired optimal dosage and do so before the prostate brachytherapy procedure is concluded.

摘要： Apparatus for delivering brachytherapy to a target tissue region includes an elongate body including a proximal end, a distal end sized for introduction into a tissue tract and carrying a plurality of elongate members including pathways for receiving a source of radiation. The elongate members are movable between collapsed and expanded configurations. During use, a tract is created through tissue, and the elongate body carrying the elongate members is advanced through the tract into a target location with the elongate members in the collapsed configuration. The elongate members are directed to the expanded configuration at the target location, and radiation is delivered to treat tissue at the target location, e.g., by introducing one or more radiation sources along the pathways.

摘要： The present disclosure provides a brachytherapy apparatus, system and method that delivers partial breast irradiation treatment for post-lumpectomy patients via introduction of a catheter-like device through a trocar. The apparatus may be introduced post-surgically with local anesthesia under image guidance into the previous excision site and into a cavity by a surgeon. The brachytherapy apparatus includes one or more thin-walled tubes, each of said thin-walled tubes being configured to contain one or more radioactive sources, at least one radiation source configured to deliver a prescribed dose of radiation, a whisk adjuster configured to permit adjustment of each of the one or more thin-walled tubes so that the tubes substantially conform to a size of the body cavity; and an expansion element configured to expand outwardly said one or more thin-walled tubes within the cavity so that the thin-walled tubes substantially conform to a shape and/or size of the body cavity.
