    • A portable circuit interrupting apparatus for use on a circuit isolating device and associated methods of formation and use are provided. The portable circuit interrupting apparatus includes a main housing body and a sleeve coaxially mounted therein. The sleeve is slidable between an extended and retracted position. A shunt circuit segment is connected between ring and hook engaging terminals which engage and form an electrical connection between ring-like and hook-like conducting parts of the circuit isolating device. A shunt circuit segment interrupts the electrical connection in response to movement of the sleeve from the retracted position to the extended position. At least portions of a reset plunger extend inwardly through an opening in a medial portion of the sleeve when in the extended position. An operation counter is connected to and responds to the inward extension of the reset plunger to count a number of circuit interrupting operations.

    • A main circuit switching unit and an isolator are accommodated in a vacuum container. A first conductor and a main circuit conductor are arranged to extend in and out of the vacuum container. A movable electrode of the main circuit switching unit is connected to the first conductor through a first flexible conductor, and a movable electrode of the isolator is connected to the main circuit conductor through a second flexible conductor. A shield is arranged around the first conductor and the main circuit conductor. Another shield is arranged around a connecting portion between the first flexible conductor and the movable electrode of the main circuit switching unit. A still another shield is arranged around the isolator. A further another shield is arranged around the second flexible conductor. These shields are secured to the vacuum container through insulating spacers. This arrangement instantly eliminates a dielectric breakdown phenomenon that occurs at electric field concentrated regions by the shields to prevent a dielectric breakdown caused by particulate foreign matters and thereby improve an insulation reliability of the devices.

    • The switchable lightning-arrester system has a safety-switchable connector (10), which, for differing power-line features, can include optionally a counter-lever safety connector (14), a slide safety connector (40), a hinged safety connector (56) and a pivot safety connector (67) intermediate a power line (11) and a lightning arrester (1) for on-spot disconnection to protect workers from self-destructing arresters when changing lightning arresters or working on damaged lines without costly, time-consuming and power-disruptive shutdown of power lines. This is highly important because the lightning arresters are changed and repair work is done on damaged lines as quickly after self-destruction from lightning surges as possible requiring the change and repair. The safety-switchable connectors are made to be operable and changeable from a safe distance remotely, which is preferably from a ground position near a light pole, a transformer or other line support (9). Many line-worker lives have been injured or lost in the past without this safety-switchable connector.

    • Switchgear is provided that includes a housing enclosing electrical components having switch blades that establish visible open gaps in an open position. The switchgear includes an array of operating controls and viewing provisions to observe the open switch blades. The operating controls and viewing provisions are accessible from a first direction and are arranged at a first area of the housing while cable interconnection provisions are accessible from a second direction and are arranged at a second area of the housing. Thus, operating personnel can utilize the viewing provisions and the operating controls without being exposed to the area of the cable interconnections. In one specific arrangement, an array of operational displays is provided, with the displays overlying the viewing provisions and being movable to permit use of the viewing provisions. In a preferred arrangement, the switchgear includes multi-pole switchgear assemblies which are assembled from individual pole-unit assemblies. The multi-pole switchgear assemblies are mounted to a housing along a single edge or corner of the switchgear assembly.
