    • A Mixed Media Reality (MMR) system and associated techniques are disclosed. The MMR system provides mechanisms for forming a mixed media document that includes media of at least two types (e.g., printed paper as a first medium and digital content and/or web link as a second medium). In one particular embodiment, the MMR system includes an MMR user, a MMR computer, a user printer that produces a printed document, a networked media server, an office portal, a service provider server, an electronic display that is electrically connected to a set-top box, a document scanner, a network, a capture device, a cellular infrastructure, wireless fidelity (Wi-Fi) technology, Bluetooth® technology, infrared (IR) technology, wired technology, and a geo location mechanism. The MMR system of the present invention provides mechanisms for forming a mixed media document that includes media of at least two types, such as printed paper as a first medium and a digital photograph, digital movie, digital audio file, or web link as a second medium. Furthermore, the MMR system of the present invention facilitates business methods that take advantage of the combination of a portable electronic device, such as a cellular camera phone, and a paper document.

The data verification workstation is configured to obtain document images from the image server, present portions of document images to an operator, wherein the document images include text, and receive input from the operator based on the text. The input includes data elements. The data verification workstation is also configured to acquire machine-recognized data elements from the data entry server. The machine-recognized data elements were acquired from the document image during a machine-implemented data acquisition process based on the text. The data verification workstation is also configured to compare the data elements received from the operator to the machine-recognized data elements and selectively prompt the operator to re-input the data elements based on the comparison.

    • A method and apparatus are provided for providing one or more media objects associated with a printed document to a user of a mobile communication device. The method comprises the steps of: providing an electronic file comprising a digital representation of a printed document, wherein the printed document comprises a plurality of printed portions and plurality of printed objects associated with at least some of the printed portions; providing data related to a direct and/or indirect association of the plurality of portions with respective printed objects; associating a plurality of media objects with the plurality of printed objects; receiving a captured image representing at least one part of a portion of the printed document, wherein that portion belongs to the plurality of printed portions; processing the captured image; identifying one or more portions of the printed document whose image has been captured and deriving therefrom the respective associated one or more printed objects; and communicating at least one media object associated with the identified one or more printed objects to the user of the mobile communication device.
